Country's first 3-D smart traffic lights' pilot project successful; Mohali administration to install smart lights on four other junctions

After the success of pilot project of smart traffic signal lights at Phase 8-B junction, the district administration to install such lights on four other junctions of the city. Presiding over a high level meeting here at district administrative complex, the Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Mrs. Aashika Jain has directed the officers of the municipal corporation to float tenders for setting up smart lights.
During meeting, Mrs. Aashika Jain apprised that under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner Mr. Girish Dayalan, the pilot project of country's first 3-D Smart traffic signal system had been stared at the Quark city, phase-8B junction in the month of August this year. She said that these fully computerized lights have saved 15,528 litre of fuel of vehicles worth Rs.10.8 lakh over a period of three months. Similarly, standing time on lights has been reduced up to 720 hours. Mrs. Jain said that the biggest achievement is that during this period, no accident has occurred on this light point, which is known as black spot (infamous for accidents).
Mrs. Jain, who was chairing road safety meeting, directed Mr. Ashwani Chaudhary, Superintending Engineering, Municipal Corporation to extend this project to four junctions from Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Sector -81 to Sector-68/69 light point and float tenders for the same.
Sharing other features of the Smart signal lights, she said that apart from the synchronization under which lights would function as per the availability and density of traffic on each side of the road, sensors equipped cameras to keep eagle eye on anti social activities, pollution would be reduced due to low standing time of the vehicles on the lights, money will be saved and apart from this, green signal would be given to the ambulances if stranded on the lights.
She said that traditional methods of traffic police for controlling and regulating traffic are very much labour-intensive and 2-dimensional, employing the 3-D technique to make traffic signal fully actuated and on a real-time basis is first of its kind in the country. This will be a major leap towards better and economical traffic management system. “Not only huge saving in cost, but this will also reduce the tendency to jump traffic light, reduce travel time and modelling time spent at a traffic signal, she added.
She also emphasized to aware food distributed agents and students about traffic rules by launching sensitization campaign. She also directed to fully implement the instructions of Fog Advisory issued by the state government during the fog season.
Emphasize to develop kitchen gardens in schools
During the meeting of the District Education Development Committee, Mrs. Jain instructed the officials to ensure the nutrition kitchen gardens in all schools of the district should be developed. Officials apprised the ADC that the seeds kits had already been dispatched to all schools under nutritional Garden campaign. On which, Additional Deputy Commissioner (D) said that school heads to submit the report that in how much quantity vegetables from kitchen garden have been used for a mid-day meal so that proper utilization of the seed kits could be gauged. School heads also asked to ensure that no leaf of the trees would be burnt in school premises and underground pits to manage leaf waste to be digged up.
Earlier, presiding over the meeting of the District Health Society, Assistant Commissioner (General) Mr. Yashpal Sharma took stock of the schemes of the health department. Civil Surgeon Dr. Manjit Singh apprised Mr. Sharma about Chief Minister Cancer Relief Fund program, RNTCP Program, Tobacco Control Program, National leprosy Eradication Program, National Viral Hepatitis Control Program, Vector borne disease Control Program and sanitation campaign.
Secretary RTA Mr. Sukhwinder Kumar, DSP (Traffic) Mr. Guriqbal Singh and Road Safety Engineer Mission Tandarust Punjab Mr. Charanjeet Singh were present on the ocassion.
