Chandigarh, December 10, 2019: A senior journalist working for an English newspaper was molested while she was on her morning walk in Punjab University’s Botanical Garden at around 7.30 am on Monday.
The woman, who lives on the campus, fought off the molester for 15 minutes forcing him to let go of her and vanish. In the scuffle she got injuries on her face and arms.
A case under Sections 354 (sexual harassment), 354-A (passing sexually coloured remarks), 354-D (stalking) and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code was registered at the Sector 11 police station and investigation is on to arrest the accused.
Meanwhile, Chandigarh Press Club has issued the following statement regarding the incident:
“A senior female colleague and member of Chandigarh Press Club was assaulted and molested by an unidentified person, when she was out on morning walk in Chandigarh. But female journalist showed courage and fought bravely with the molester. Finally, after struggle of 15 minutes, female journalist managed to run away to safety. The Chandigarh Press Club demands speedy police investigation of the matter and arrest of the accused”.
