New Delhi, December 10, 2019: Lily Thomas, the senior-most woman advocate practicing in the Supreme Court, passed today morning at a hospital here. She was 91.
She was among the first few woman advocates in the country and filed many public interest litigations (PIL) in Supreme Court and other courts seeking to improve existing laws.
She belonged to Kottayam in Keral and grew up in Trivandrum. She started practice in the Madras High Court after getting her law degree in 1955.
She was the first woman in the country to qualify for LLM degree which she got in 1959. The next year she started practicing in the Supreme Court.
