British Army Team led by Brigadier makes visually impaired inmates touch her face and uniform to feel her presence
Ferozepur, December 13, 2019: A delegation of British Army Team led by Brigadier Celia Jane Harvey during its visit to Ferozepur, visited the Home for the Blinds to spend quality time with the inmates. They were escorted by Gurbhej Singh Tibbi, Vice President, Youth Congress and Deepak Sharma, MD, Mayank Sharma Foundation.
The entire management of Home for the Blinds including Manager Ramesh Sethi, Treasurer Ashok Gupta, and Assistant Secretary Harish Monga welcomed the delegation with showers of flowers. The team members witnessed the talent of visually impaired persons and Brigadier Celia Jane Harvey during interaction with the visually impaired inmates asked them to touch her face and uniform to feel her presence, which creates an emotional atmosphere in the institution.
The delegation of British army led by Brigadier Celia Jane Harvey and comprising Captain Craig Bickerton, Captain Jagjeet Singh Sohal and warrant officer Ashok Chauhan, is on a week-long trip to India, commemorating the valour and gallantry of 21 Sikh warriors of Saragarhi battle, and it was part of programme to visit Saragarhi Memorial complex, Ferozepur to recalled the mighty battle fought in 1897 between the British Indian Empire and Afghan tribesman in the North-West Frontier Province, now Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Pakistan.
Welcoming the delegation, Assistant secretary Harish Monga highlighted the working and achievement of the institution which was started by Dr. Sadhu Chand Vinayak, MBBS in 1954 besides making the special reference of joining 18 inmates in government jobs during the last year and academic performance of existing 15 inmates.
Soon the interaction session went musical when the visitors were entertained by inmates - Yashpal with violin performance and Music lecturer Anil Gupta a pass out of this institution with melodious tunes and songs.
The team also took a special round of computer room and felt amazed to see the visually impaired inmates operating the computer system. The delegation appreciated the hard work, sincerity, and dedication of the management in serving this neediest section of the society.
Speaking on the occasion, Brigadier Celia Jane Harvey said, “I have full respect for this institution and for the staff who are working hard and dedicating their time so that institution could make their way in life and make a living by giving your time and efforts to make this happen. Thank you”.
In the end, Brigadier Harvey was presented with a disc of documentary shoot titled vision without eyes on Home for Blinds along with thanks for your kind visit souvenir.
