Teams from 100 Universities are taking part in the Championship
Chandigarh, Decemebr 15, 2019: All India Inter-University Weightlifting and Best Physique Championship (Men) kicked off today at the campus of Chandigarh University Gharuan. 776 Lifters and Bodybuilders from 100 University teams are participating in the Competition which was inaugurated today by Pro-Vice Chancellor, Chandigarh University, Dr. B.S.Sohi along with Competition Director Pal Singh Sandhu and K.D.S Nagar. The teams are participating in the 55 kg, 61 kg, 67 kg, 73 kg, 81 kg, 89 kg, 96 kg, 102 kg, 109 kg and 109+ kg weight categories in the weightlifting category while in the best physique competition the weight categories are 60 kg, 65 kg, 75 kg, 80 kg, 85 kg and 90 kg.
On the first day of the competition, in the best physique event, more than 45 body builders took part in the 60 kg weight category. After the first round, 20 players were shortlisted and finally 11 players entered the final round. Pawar Ajinkya from Mumbai University bagged gold medal while Akshay Chauhan from CCS University Merrut bagged silver medal. Lokesh Kori from the host Chandigarh University bagged third position in the best physique event (60 kg).
In the weightlifting competition, 55 kg weight category, players from 41 universities took part on the first day. Sanket Mahadev, Shivaji University Kolhapur bagged gold medal by lifting a total weight of 242 kg (Snatch 108 kg, Clean & Jerk 134 kg) while Kohli Prashant Singh from KVCNM University Jalgaon Mumbai lifted a total weight of 226 kg (Snatch 104 kg, Clean & Jerk 122 kg) and won silver medal. K Ejlawrsen from T U Vellore University, Tamil Nadu bagged bronze medal by lifting a total weight of 220 kg (Snatch 99 kg, Clean & Jerk 121 kg).
