New Delhi, December 15, 2019 - In order to save fuel, time and pollution and to ensure seamless movement of traffic, Electronic Toll Collection through FASTag was successfully started today by NHAI all over the country.
All 523 Toll Plazas of NHAI have been fully equipped with the required ETC infrastructure.
As many vehicles are still without Fastag, 75% lanes were kept as FASTag lanes and upto 25% lanes were kept as hybrid lanes for cash as well as digital transaction considering the convenience of the commuters who have still not installed FASTag on their vehicle.
ETC Implementation was started from 08.00 today, 15th December, on all NHAI Toll Plazas.
Each tollplaza is being supervised by a nodal officer of NHAI at ground and monitored at regional & head-quarter level Control and Command centres. The team NHAI is working round the clock to implement the FAStag mandate successfully.
Regional officers have been authorised to take on the spot decision for conversion to hybrid lanes upto 25% on case to case basis to avoid traffic pile up at high traffic volume fee plazas.
Adequate number of Marshals have been deputed at each toll plaza for smooth traffic regulation and to educate and request commuters to buy FASTag, telling them how to get & recharge FASTag through pamphlets & public announcements.
In addition at various Tollplaza novel method like distributing flower & chocolates were done to encourage commuter to adopt FASTag.
The implementation of FAStag will lead to behavioural shift of NH commuters and will lead to enhanced travel experience.
Studies have shown than smooth passing without stopping at Toll Plazas is likely to save thousands of Crores every year for the nation.
All the Highway commuters who are still without Fastag are requested to install it on their vehicle and help save their own and other commuters time and money.
