Chandigarh, January 17, 2020: On the recommendation of the Privilege Committee, the Punjab Vidhan Sabha today initiated action against journalist and government teacher Parminder Singh Baryana which led to an uproar in the House.
Baryana has been accused of violating the sanctity of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha. The Privilege Committee report has says that an FIR should be registered against Baryana and he should be dismissed from service.
Baryana did an interview of former Punjab DGP Sumedh Saini while he was a government teacher and this was objected to by Congress MLA Kulbir Zira, who then lodged a complaint with the Vidhan Sabha Privilegel Committee.
As soon as this report was presented in the House, MLAs of Akali Dal, Aam Aadmi Party and the Lok Insaaf Party started shouting slogans against the government.
Opposition parties say the government wants to suppress the voice of the press which led to their walkout from the House.
