Kapurthala, January 23, 2020: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sukhbir Singh Badal today demanded the immediate dismissal of Revenue minister Gurpreet Singh Kangar and Advisor to chief minister Kushaldeep Singh Dhillon besides registration of a murder case against them on the basis of the statement of the family of former Sarpanch Surjit Singh that the Congress leaders had caused the death of the prime witness in the Behbal Kalan police firing case.
The SAD President, who visited the residence of the family of former Sarpanch Surjit Singh at Behbal Kalan and consoled the victim family including Surjit’s wife Jasbir, said the SAD would provide legal assistance to the family to secure justice in the case.
Stating that the role of the Congress party in the elimination of the lone witness in the Behbal Kalan firing case to save cops who had fired upon innocent Sikhs had now come out in the open, the SAD President said chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh should now explain his inaction in the matter. “It is most shocking that no FIR has been registered in the case even after eight days and the guilty are roaming scot free despite a clear announcement by Jasbir Kaur that she would end her life if action is not taken against the Congress leaders”.
The SAD President assured the victim family that the SAD would do its utmost to pressurize the Congress government to take action against all the accused persons, however high they may be. He also demanded that the entire matter be probed by a sitting judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
Interacting with newsmen on the spot, Mr Sukhbir Badal said the family of former Sarpanch Surjit Singh had made it clear that the two Congress leaders were responsible for the death of the Sarpanch and that they misused the police as well as the Electricity department to force him not to give witness against police personnel who fired and killed innocent Sikhs protesters at Behbal Kalan in Faridkot district in 2015.
Condemning the heinous conduct of both Kangar and Dhillon who had abused their position and committed a grave crime against humanity, Mr Badal said Kangar had sent repeated teams to Surjit’s house to check his electricity load leading to the imposition of an unjust fine of Rs 55,000 on the family. He said Kangar’s complicity in the conspiracy to silence Surjit could also be seen from the fact that when Surjit approached the minister he threw him out of his office. The SAD President said Kushaldeep Dhillon was responsible for harassing Surjit through his men in the village with the sole intention of saving the cops who had fired on the innocent Sikhs. He said Kushaldeep had also pressurized the Faridkot SSP due to which Surjit’s pleas for help were ignored.
The SAD President said the gruesome incident had proved that the Congress party was only doing politics on the issue of sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji. “Now proof has emerged that the Congress party is in fact thwarting the cause of justice in the Behbal Kalan firing case. The SAD will not allow this conspiracy to succeed at any cost”, he added.
