Tributes paid to Lala Lajpat Rai on his 155th Birth Anniversary
MOGA, January 28, 2020: On the occasion of 155th Birth Anniversary of Freedom Fighter Lala Lajpat Rai, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Moga Satwant Singh on the behalf of Punjab Government and District Administration paid homage to the martyr at his birthplace in Dhudike village in Moga on Tuesday.
SDM Satwant Singh accompanied by former minister Dr Malti Thapar and General Secretary Ranjit Singh Dhanna paid floral tributes to the legendary freedom fighter at his the memorial in the village.
Lala Lajpat Rai, popularly known as Punjab Kesari, was born on January 28, 1865, at Dhudike. Chiefly remembered as a leader in the Independence movement, he sustained serious injuries in the lathi-charge by the police when leading a non-violent protest against the Simon Commission and died after less than three weeks of the incident on November 17, 1928.
SDM Satwant Singh said that the nation was indebted to him for his exceptional role in the freedom movement. “We should keep observing anniversaries of the freedom fighters that our future generations should realize that it took sacrifices for the freedom of the country,” he said.
On the occasion, President NRI Sabha Jagjit Singh, Patwant Singh, Iqbal Singh, Kewal Singh, Jagtar Singh, Advocate Daljit Singh, Satpal Satta, Secretary Raj Jang Singh, Nachattar Singh among others were present.
