Chandigarh, February 24, 2020: Hailing the conferring of “Ideal Chief Minister Award” upon Chief Minister Punjab, Capt Amarinder Singh, the Chairman of Punjab Subordinate Services Selection Board, Mr. Raman Behl said that it is a well deserved honour for the Chief Minister who has taken path- breaking initiatives to ensure good governance and holistic development in the State.
He said that Capt. Amarinder Singh has brought about total transparency in the process of recruitment into the government offices. He informed that ending all discretionary powers vested with the Punjab Sub ordinate Services Selection Board(PSSSB), at the behest of Capt. Amarinder Singh, the selection of the candidates and the subsequent allotment of departments to them is now being done solely on merit basis. The choice of department wherein a candidate wishes to join is available to him as per his position in the merit list.
Similarly, the transfer of teachers which had always been the prerogative of the elected representatives, now has been made independent of all pulls and pressures. The “sifaarish” culture has been done away with and a point based fully computerized system of transfers has been introduced with no room what-so-ever for political interference.
He said that the youth of Punjab were going abroad in search of green pastures but Punjab government under Capt. Amarinder Singh is trying to arrest the brain-drain by ensuring gainful employment in the state.
In the direction of eliminating the scourge of drugs, it is due to the commitment of Capt. Amarinder Singh that government has successfully managed to break the back of the drug mafia, thereby choking the supply line, said Behl and added that on the law and order front, the state had successfully neutralised many terrorist modules, besides stamping out gangsterism from the state.
He said that these initiatives coupled with Capt. Amarinder Singh’s commitment and conviction to provide clean governance has earned him the ‘Adarsh Mukhya Mantri Puraskar’. It is indeed a matter of pride for Punjab, said Raman Behl.
Pertinently, Bhartiya Chhatra Sansad (BCS) awarded Singh the ‘Adarsh Mukhya Mantri Puraskar’ to Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh during the 10th Indian Students’ Parliament in New Delhi on Sunday. The award was given to him by former President Pranab Mukherjee at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi during the valedictory function of 10th edition of four-day national conclave of BCS.
