District Administration Moga urges residents not to panic and fall prey to rumours on social media
Moga, March 20, 2020: Deputy Commissioner Moga today appealed to the residents of Moga to stay home, not move outdoors and keep themselves safe in wake of an alert issued by the Government over Corona Virus outbreak. He also appealed them not to fall prey to the rumours on social media about lockout.
Addressing media persons here today with the SSP Harmanbir Singh Gill, the Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Hans, stated that people should keep themselves safe by staying inside their houses and avoid going outside. He said that special care should be taken about the children below 10 years of age and elderly above 65 years of age.
He said that district administration, health department and police officials were together conducting the house-to-house survey in district wherein people are being motivated to stay indoors, wash their hands frequently and avoid going in congregations. They are also being checked for the virus symptoms and their details are being tabulated.
He said that the SDMs have been directed to check whether any person is hoarding masks and hand sanitisers in the district, or is selling fake/substandard ones. He said that now, both masks and hand sanitisers have been added in the list of Essential Commodities and strict action would be taken against any person who either hoards it or sells fake.
In view of the advisory received from the Government of India for checking the spread of COVID19, all the shopping complexes, malls, museums, gyms, local weekly Kisan mandis have been closed down besides requesting all the Religious Institutions, Dera Heads to postpone their religious congregations till March 31, 2020.
He said that the State Government has also decided to restrict the gathering at the marriage function being organised in marriage palaces (must not increase beyond 50 persons).
All the shopping complexes and malls, cinemas would be closed in the State till March 31 but the chemists and grocery shops in Malls have been exempted from the shutdown. Similarly, all the local weekly Kisan mandis in the state have been closed in a bid to restrict people to gather in large number at one place. The government has allowed the rehriwalas to sell the vegetables in the streets for the convenience of the public.
SSP Gill said that in last 20 to 25 days, all those who have returned to country from visit overseas should isolate themselves from the general public as a measure against spreading of coronavirus. He said that the police have a list of all such people, who are being tracked down and directed to stay at home for at least 15 days. He said that such people's mobile phones will be put on surveillance to track their movement. If they go out of their houses, strict legal action will be taken against them.
