Fatehgarh Sahib. March.31, 2020: In the wake of the Covid-19 crisis when the government is greatly involved in dealing with it and trying its best to assuage the sufferings of the have not’s and other sections of society, approximately 400 Non Teaching and teaching employees of Shri Guru Granth Sahib World University Fatehgarh Sahib being run by SGPC have also been facing a crisis for survival as their salaries have not been paid for the last three months.
The employees in a letter to the Chief Minister and copy to Minister Sadhu Singh and Chief Secretary have urged them to save them from not only COVID- 19 but also from financial crisis by releasing the SC/ST scholarship funds, so that they may get the salary and save themselves and their families from starvation. They have mentioned that whenever they approach SGPC, the only answer they get is that non payment of their salaries is on account of non- disbursal SC/ST scholarship amount to the tune of several crores of rupees by the State Govt.
They have repeatedly appeal to the SGPC and the CM to do something promptly to save them and their families just like they have been worried about to save the migrants and labourers. They said that due to COVID-19 entire Nation is in lock down and moreover they don’t have any other source of income and they are not able to do routine expenses of families and likely to face starvation like situation.
It is worth mentioning that the non teaching employees of the University were sitting on dharna in protest against the non payment of their salaries for the last three months but the declaration of lock down and curfew forced them to lift the dharna since then they had been struggling to get salaries.
