Mohali, April 2, 2020: Mohali Golf Range (MGR) in Sector-65 at SAS Nagar (Mohali) completed 5 years of start of operations on April 1.
Divulging details, Shalini Kahlon of Castle Sports running Mohali Golf Range, said, “Yesterday 01 April 2020 marked 5 years of Operations of Mohali Golf Range. Mohali Golf Range (MGR) is one of India’s Largest Stand Alone Golf Learning and Practise Facilities cum Driving Range built as per international standards in 11 acres in the heart of Mohali. Punjab only a few kilometers from the Chandigarh International Airport Mohali , Aerocity , IT City and the upcoming Aerotroplis.
Established in 2015 by Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA), it currently has 1100 members and offers to Mohali and the Tricity a fully Floodlit Golf Driving Range and Golf Academy to accommodate 80 Golfers at one time with a 2 - tier 48 astroturf hitting bays alongwith 900 Sq Yds of Bermuda Grass Tee Hitting area and a Bermuda Grass Mckinsey Style putting green and designated chipping and pitching area .
The range is open for play to non- members also and a 9 Hole Par - 2 golf course has also been designed within the Range for the beginners and children to experience Golf on the Course.
Golf is now an Olympic Sport and within only 5 years , Mohali Golf Range has initiated approx. 1000 new players into golf from age 3 to age 80 including approx. 300 young boys and girls of the Mohali Area thereby contributing to produce medal winners from Punjab in the future Olympics and Asian Games etc.
Six-year-old Ojaswini Sarsawati is winning International Tournaments, Hartej Grewal, Mohul Dhingra , Yuvraaj Singh Hara , Ira Jamwal are regularly winning in the IGU National level tournaments also.
Some of the Annual Golf Programmes conducted at Mohali Golf Range to develop and popularize the Olympic Sport of Golf at the grassroots level are Free Womens Golf Camp, Free ‘Special” Children Golf Camp, Summer Winter and Monthly Golf Camps for Boys and Girls age 3 onwards, Castle Sports Open Golf Challenge, Golf Rules and Etiquette Clinic,Santa Claus Golf on Christmas for young Children age 2 onwards.
Regular Individual and Group Coaching of the New Members , Non Members and Children,Daily non – stop Golf Driving Range operations from 0600 -2130 in Summers and 0700 -2130 in Winters, Grass Hitting 6 days a week, Golf Orientation for the New Members of Mohali Golf Range, Conduct of Golf Tests by CGA Committee to make Permanent Members, Conduct of MGR Golf Cup 2018 Mohali Golf Range was awarded the Award for “ The best facilities provided by any State Development Authority in India by the Indian Golf Industry Association in 2016”.
Mohali Golf Range is affiliated to the CGA Golf Range and team of coaches include Harmeet Kahlon, Arjuna Awardee, Director of Golf and Asian Tour Winner as its Director Of Golf, one of India’s leading Golf Players , has over three decades of experience of playing and winning in Competitive Golf at the highest world level including USA, Europe, Asia and the Indian Subcontinent.
His coaching and administrative experience includes the Director of the Mohali Golf Range Academy and is one of the highest decorated Golf Players of the Punjab/Chandigarh region. Other coaches include NGAI Certified and Professional Winner Lady Coach Preetinder Kaur and Som Nath.
A Best of Luck Initiative for Indian Olympic Golf Team was conducted in 2016 and a rare Hole in one was achieved by 2 Members of Mohali Golf Range at the MGF Golf Club on Landran Road and young Mohul Dhingra scored a hole in one in the. Jeev Milkha Invitational at Chandigarh Golf Club.
A World Environment Day Awareness for Children at was also conducted and Wisden Cricketer of the Century , Mr Kapil Dev visited Mohali Golf Range and appreciated the golf facilities and golf programmes being offered.
As part of the staff encouragement, the MGR Golf Cup 2018 and 2019 included a special competition and prize for the MGR Staff. Other facilities offered include a Swimming Pool, Gymnasium , Steam Sauna , Billiards , Bar and Restaurant,Banquet Hall, Cards Room. Audio Visual Academy room, Library and Pro Shop. Golf Range was awarded the Award for “The best facilities provided by any State Development Authority in India by the Indian Golf Industry association in 2016”.
