Amritsar, April 3, 2020: In the first case of its kind, a 67-year-old coronavirus patient who tested positive has neither travel history nor has he been in contact with anyone who travelled abroad.
Confirming this, Civil Surgeon Dr. Prabhdeep Kaur Johal said, “This patient had no history of travel and he wasn’t in touch with anyone who came from abroad. He is having small shop in Amritsar. This is the first case of its kind in Punjab and hence it is a warning for us. His wife, two sons and a grandson are being kept in isolation and they will be tested.”
She said two more persons tested positive today and they were associated with late Ragi Nirmal Singh, who passed away yesterday due to coronavirus.
Meanwhile, paramedical staff and nurses of the isolation ward at Guru Nanak Dev hospital held a massive protest against the administration alleging that they were not getting mandatory equipment, including masks and sanitizers. Even the sutures were not being sanitised, they said.
They alleged that the hospital administration was not providing drinking water to patients and as a result the nursing staff was spending from their own pocket to buy water bottles for patients.
They added that nurses and other staff who were looking after Nirmal Singh when he was admitted to the isolation ward in the hospital were not quarantined.
