Punjab Police starts using drones to check curfew violators
Ferozepur, April 5, 2020: While adopting Zero Tolerance against the violators of curfew directives, the drone surveillance by the police during curfew has become necessary as the people are violating the restrictions imposed, despite giving a warning and registration of a number of cases.
Drones in Ferozepur will keep a ‘Cat Eye’ upon the curfew violators in the whole of the city to map activities and ensure that people did not gather in large numbers and maintain social distancing.
The police have now taken the help of drones to keep an eye on the violators and in case still, the people don’t understand the gravity of the situation in the wake of coronavirus threat, they will be dealt with severely.
Meanwhile, the District Magistrate, Kulwant Singh has converted the local Shaheed Bhagat Singh Stadium as a temporary jail to keep the curfew violators, under the overall temporary charge of Superintendent Jail.
SSP Bhupinder Singh said the drone surveillance is highly effective in covering large areas for ensuring enforcement of curfew and proper utilization of manpower. The use of a drone has been switched into action as per the directions of the seniors adding that it has become necessary that despite orders, the citizens had been seen sitting in groups in the colonies. They will now be captured through the drone cameras and booked for taking further legal action.
He said any violation will be informed to the nearest police station and patrolling vehicles about the activity spotted by the drone.
On April 4, as many as, 32 cases of violation under Section 188 of IPC were registered. He, however, appealed to the people to remain at home till such time the situation is normal, by bearing with the circumstances, he added.
