Recovery of mobiles exposes security arrangements at Jail
Establishments next to Central Jail pose security threat
Ferozepur, April 8, 2020: The Central Jail, Ferozepur, is most of the time in headlines for recovery of cell phones, escaping of undertrials from police custody while taking them for producing in the courts on the date of hearing, throwing of material from outside over the high-walls, allotment of VIP barracks on bribing etc.
Now with the recovery of two mobiles from the central jail premises, the security arrangements at the Central Jail has once again been exposed, especially when a number of prisoners have been released on parole and ‘mulaqats’ of relatives with the prisoners have also been banned for the time being in the wake of curfew on account of coronavirus threat in the state.
On the complaint of Sukhwant Singh, Asstt. Superintendent, a case has been registered against the unidentified person on the recovery of two mobiles of Vivo – touch screen blue colour without SIM and Samsung keypad black colour with SIM card.
In the past also, the recovery of mobiles from the barracks and inmates, apart from throwing outside, has been a regular feature. In fact, the high rising building around the jail, in the heart of the city has also become a threat to the security of the jail. Sometime back, mobiles wrapped in envelope thrown from outside were also recovered besides drugs and bidis.
Due to paucity of funds with the government, the shifting of jail from the thickly populated area to nearby village Khai Pheme Ki under Optimum Utilisation of Vacant Government Land Scheme, could not be materialized. Not only this but the proposal to install the jammers also, could not take places, with the reasons best known to the authorities.
The plan to raise the four-wall of the jail, with barbered wire from the security point of view could not become visible.
