Amid lockdown, railways continue milk supplies through ‘Dhoodh Duronto Special Train’
Ferozepur, April 9, 2020: In a bid to maintain the supply of the essential items during the lockdown period in the wake of the spread of coronavirus, Indian Railways has started special ‘Doodh Duronto Special Train’ for dispatch of milk to the needy states.
DRM Ferozepur Rajesh Aggarwal appreciated the services of employees of the railways working day and night, at the forefront, as warriors, to keep the supply of essential items during the lockdown period while the people of the whole of the country are lockdown in their houses.
A senior railway official said, a special Doodh Durono has been started from Reninguna in Andhra Pradesh to Hazrat Nizamuddin in Delhi along with two parcel vans to make the regular supply of milk, by covering 36 hours journey running at par with the express train with an average speed of 110 kmph without any enroute detention.
He said, it is a big challenge for the railways to arrange the supply of essential commodities during the lockdown period. However, utmost precaution was taken while loading the train with 2.4 lakh litres of milk, 23 tonnes of mangoes and 23 tonnes of muskmelons, firstly on March 26.
All passenger, mail and express trains were suspected on March 24 till April 14 in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic outbreak but the railways continued with its freight and special parcel train services to ensure the supply of essential items across the country at this critical juncture, he added.
