Nevada(USA), July 6, 2015: Various prestigious universities/institutes around the world are offering Sanskrit language courses during summer.

Universities/Institutes offering these Sanskrit classes include USA’s Harvard University, University of Wisconsin-Madison and Mangalam Research Center Berkeley; Germany’s Universität Heidelberg and Universität Hamburg; United Kingdom’s University of Oxford and University of London; Nepal’s Rangjung Yeshe Institute; etc.

The courses include Spoken Sanskrit, Sanskrit Recitation, Intensive Sanskrit, Intermediate Sanskrit, Elementary Sanskrit, etc.

Distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, pointed out that Sanskrit should be restored to its rightful place and needed to be brought to the mainstream and hidden scientific truths in ancient Sanskrit literature should be brought to light.

Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, indicated that India was not doing enough for Sanskrit promotion. He urged India Government to do much more for the development, propagation, encouragement and promotion of Sanskrit in India and the world, which was essential for the development of India and preservation of its cultural heritage. Sanskrit also provided the theoretical foundation of ancient sciences, Zed noted.

Rajan Zed stressed that India Government should establish a world-level national library of Sanskrit besides Sanskrit libraries in each state; make Sanskrit available as a subject in all secondary, under-graduate, graduate, and doctoral schools in India; provide Sanskrit teachers’ training courses in all the states; enrich manuscripts collections; publish rare manuscripts; provide easily accessible online/distance learning courses for learners world over; coordinate the Sanskrit research done around the globe; frequently organize world level research conferences; provide generous funding for research projects; etc.

Zed further said that besides Hindu scriptures, a vast amount of Buddhist and Jain scriptures were also written in Sanskrit, which was known as “the language of the gods”. According to tradition, self-born God created Sanskrit, which was everlasting and divine. Oldest scripture of mankind still in common use, Rig-Veda, was written in Sanskrit, which had a close relationship with other classical languages like Latin, Greek, French, German, etc., Zed added.

Mahatma Gandhi said, “Without the study of Sanskrit, one cannot become a true learned man.” German philologist Max Muller added, “Sanskrit is the greatest language of the world.”....

Bathinda, July 5, 2015 : Punjab Police has busted a recently developed Pakistan-Mumbai trans-border heroin smuggling network funneling consignments to Mumbai with the arrest of five persons, including a BSF Constable responsible for allowing of 163 kg heroin to cross the international border in Abohar sector. 5 kg heroin, 02 cars, Pak SIM card and Rs. 68 lakh cash have been seized so far. Pak drug lord Bhola was sending the trans-border consignments.
Claiming this here today IGP Bathinda Zone Paramraj Singh Umranangal told media persons that the five persons arrested include Harpartap Singh s/o Shingara Singh r/o village Jasraon, district Amritsar– 25 year old Constable of Border Security Force (BSF) posted at BoP SS Wala in Abohar Sector (117 Bn. BSF), Harbir Singh @ Bhola s/o Nirmal Singh r/o village Naushehra Dhalla, district Amritsar, Nachhatar Singh @ Satta s/o Surjan Singh r/o village Hashimpura, district Amritsar, Buta Singh s/o Sucha Singh r/o village Sidhwan, district Tarn Taran and Gurbachan Singh @ Bittu s/o Kabul Singh r/o village Sidhwan, district Tarn Taran.
He further told that the Police have seized Rs. 68 lakh cash from the house of Harpartap Singh, Maruti Swift car No. PB 05Y 2729,Hyundai i20 car no PB 06K 9000, One Pak SIM card, Indian mobile handsets and SIM cards and 5 kg heroin.
A Case FIR No. 98 dated 04-07-2015 u/s 21/22/24/25/27/28/29/ 30 NDPS Act has been registered in police station Sadar Jalalabad and the entire heroin smuggling network is being investigated under the supervision of Sh. Amar Singh Chahal, DIG Ferozepur Range and Sh. Swapan Sharma, SSP Fazilka.
Investigations have revealed that this smuggling module was formed in April 2015 when Harpartap Singh went to his native village Jasraon for to spend his leave. There he met one Nachhatar Singh alias Satta belonging to adjoining village of Hashimpura. Satta is a member of the smuggling module controlled by Kulwinder Singh and he roped in Harpartap Singh in the smuggling racket.
It was decided that the module would use the services of Harpartap Singh for effecting trans-border crossings of heroin consignments at the present place of posting of Harpartap Singh at SS Wala BoP in the Abohar Sector as it was considered relatively easier to cross the border here due to thick forests. Satta arranged a meeting between Harpartap Singh and smuggler Kulwinder Singh s/o Ujjagar Singh r/o Makhu, district Ferozepur, where it was decided that Harpartap Singh would be paid @ Rs.70,000/- per kg of heroin for facilitating trans-border crossings of heroin consignments.
Kulwinder Singh handed over a Pak SIM card to Harpartap Singh and apprised him that Pak drug lord Bhola would establish contact with him. The Pak SIM card was provided to Harpartap Singh to enable him to directly liaison with the Pak drug lord and co-ordinate the delivery of heroin consignments.
After return of Harpartap Singh from leave, while deployed at BoP SS Wala Harpartap Singh established contact with Pak drug lord Bhola using the Pak SIM card. On the international border, for a range of a few kms Pak SIM cards work inside Indian territory and vice-versa due to location of mobile towers near the border. After co-ordinating with Pak drug lord Bhola, Harpartap Singh facilitated the following three crossings of heroin consignments across the international border in the area of BoP SS Wala.
Date Heroin (in kgs)
May 22, 2015 28 kg
May 28, 2015 26 kg
June 12, 2015 69 kg + 2 pistols
Total 123 kg

The Kulwinder module, after collecting heroin consignments would deliver them to “end-recipients” based in Mumbai through cut-offs in Delhi. Deliveries would be made in Delhi. Alongwith Kulwinder Singh, his associates Buta Singh and Gurbachan @ Bittu would retrieve the consignments and make further deliveries.
Mr. Umranangal also told that After facilitating the crossing of three contraband consignments, the appetite of Harpartap Singh was whetted. The smugglers were quite regular in payments. Money would be delivered at the house of Harpartap Singh immediately after the successful trans-border crossing by conduits of the smugglers @ Rs.70,000/- per kg. At the same time the Kulwinder module became silent as it found operations had become difficult due to police pressure.
Investigations have further revealed that increased police pressure was responsible for inactivity of Kulwinder module. The module had kept “reserve stock” of some heroin from the consignments for selling it later at more expensive rates as they had figured that the heroin rates would increase due to lack of availability. This “reserve stock” heroin has been seized by the Punjab Police from the module.
Harpartap Singh became restive as his tenure on the BoP was limited and coming to an end due to the BSF policy of rotating personnel on sensitive duties. Since the Kulwinder module had become silent, Harpartap Singh directly contacted Pak drug lord Bhola asking him to establish his contact with another Indian smuggler capable of retrieving heroin consignments. Pak drug lord Bhola co-ordinated contact between Harpartap Singh and another Indian smuggler Balraj Singh @ Raju s/o Jarnail Singh r/o village Naushehra Dhalla, district Amritsar. Raju had recently been released on bail in a case of seizure of 12 kg heroin and Rs. 16 lakh FICN by the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) in January 2012. Two Pak nationals who had crossed over into India to facilitate trans-border smuggling were also arrested alongwith Balraj @ Raju.
After establishing contact with Balraj @ Raju, Harpartap Singh co-ordinated and facilitated the crossing of one trans-border heroin consignment of 40 kg on June 28, 2015 which was retrieved by Balraj @ Raju and his associates Kaka and Harbir @ Bhola. They were in advanced stage of effecting another trans-border crossing when the module was busted. The “end-recipients” of this consignment are not yet revealed in the investigations. However, it is understood that the “end-recipients” are located outside the state of Punjab.
Since the BoP SS Wala looks after the international border adjoined by Reserve Forests, the couriers of Pak drug lord Bhola would come right upto the Zero Line and either throw the consignment over the fence or make it cross the fence through a pipe put through the fence with a gradient to facilitate transport of the packets containing heroin. Harpartap Singh would oversee retrieval of the consignments by couriers of Indian smugglers Kulwinder Singh and Balraj Singh @ Raju after ensuring the safe crossing. The smugglers were quite regular in making payments to Harpartap Singh @ Rs.70,000/- per kg. A total sum of Rs. 1.14 crore was received by Harpartap Singh for facilitating trans-border crossing of heroin consignments totalling 163 kg, out of which 68 lakhs have been recovered so far.
Punjab Police is working on the leads so as to completely unravel and expose this international heroin trafficking network in an end-to-end manner by arresting all persons figuring in the forward and backward linkages. Police parties have been dispatched to arrest Kulwinder Singh, Balraj Singh @ Raju, the “end-recipients” and other persons figuring in the network.
Further investigations are ongoing.....

Ferozepur, 5 July 2015 : The Rajasthan High Court ordering ban on sale of Poppy Husk Vends in Rajasthan has received mixed response from Punjab. While the Punjab Government welcomes the decision, the addicts of the state are getting jittery who are getting their “stock” without any questions asked.

With this changing dynamics, juxtaposed with stricter policing, the shot up in prices and decision of the court, are likely to help check addiction in the neighboring states.

ArriveSAFE, a Chandigarh based NGO on Road Safety – Harman S Sidhu, President - had filed a PIL through Senior Advocate, Mr. Anil Mehta in the Rajasthan High Court at Jaipur seeking ban on sale of LPH (Lanced Poppy Heads) in the State of Rajasthan and further to declare the policy of the State of Rajasthan for the year 2015-16 for sale of LPH illegal.

It may be added that a road accident in 1996 left Chandigarh resident Harman Singh Sidhu paralyzed from the neck down and confined him to a wheelchair forever. But, the man with true grit did not give up on life. To get out of the trauma, he started an NGO, Arrive Safe, to save others from meeting the same fate.

Speaking to this correspondent, Harman S.Sidhu - a social activists on wheel chair running NGO under the name of ArriveSafe – said, “The CAG in its Audit report found that no “register and “file of inspection” of sale was maintained in the EC office. Further, no record of cultivation had been maintained giving a free hand to the benami persons to do business. This raises a serious doubt on the Rajasthan Government’s “de addiction” exercise as they no clear record of production of LPH (Laced Poppy Husk) and its sale. As per the Report, even the State has been losing heavily on the Excise Duty”.

He further shared that in Para 13 the Order says, “Since there is no effort whatsoever by the State Government, to either map the usage, register the addicts, and to progressively reduce the supply of quantities to the users under medical prescription.”

The Order in the penultimate para states, “The sale shall be recorded to be progressively reduced every month in accordance with the directions issued by the Central Government. An affidavit giving number of persons, to whom sale is made, and the total quantities sold in each district, may be compiled and presented by the Excise Commissioner, Government of Rajsthan, Udaipur, to the High Court from 7th of every succeeding month”, he added.

Harman Singh Sidhu, President of the NGO says he has been getting hate messages and veiled threats since the order was announced. He says, “We will continue fighting this war which is a real threat to the Nation and to make our Road Safer.”

Bundala, (Amritsar), July 5,2015 : Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal today said that Former Chief Minster and Congress Deputy Leader in Lok Sabha Capt. Amarinder Singh would never succeed in his nefarious designs to create a wedge between the holy alliance of SAD-BJP.
Talking to the media persons on the sidelines of the last leg of his three-day Sangat Darshan program in the Jandiala Guru assembly segement, Badal said that Capt. Amarinder Singh was hell bent upon to destabilize SAD-BJP alliance for sake of his own vested interest. He said, “Capt. Amarinder Singh knows well as long as SAD-BJP alliance was intact, he won’t be able to realize his dream to become the Chief Minister”. Mr. Badal said that former CM was all out to tarnish the image of SAD-BJP alliance government to project himself the future CM by making illogical and out of context statements which neither have an iota of truth nor any impact on the public.
Badal reminded Capt. Amarinder Singh of age old legacy of Congress party to ‘divide and rule’ and the later was too acting on the same agenda. Mr. Badal asked Capt. Amarinder Singh to realize his actual position in the state politics as he has been negated twice during the state assembly polls.
Training guns on the Capt. Amarinder Singh for making statement that the state was passing through severe agrarian crisis, the Chief Minister said that instead of accusing us, Captain should introspect himself, what he did to improve the lot of poor farmers during his tenure as CM. Mr. Badal asked the former CM to verify his record that it was during his tenure the poor farmers were deprived of free power in the farm sector whereas our government was still providing it to the peasantry at the cost of huge subsidy to tune of Rs. 5500 crore ,which was duly reimbursed by the state government to the PSPCL to make it economically viable and financially sustainable.
Badal lamented that Punjab had always on the agenda of least priority on the Congress leadership in Centre, adding he dared Capt. Amarinder Singh to explain what he secured in terms of any special package or major development project from the UPA government during his tenure. On the contrary, our government has got so many prestigious projects like AIIMS, IIM, National Horticulture Institute and Heritage status to holy city Amritsar within a short span of just 16 months.
He said Captain’s mass contact program across the state was a ploy whereas he was committed to give justice to the people at their door step thereby bridging the communication between the administration and the masses. Overwhelmed by the unbounded love and affection showered upon him by the people even for the fifth term as a Chief Minister, Mr. Badal said that it was his moral duty to serve the people who were the ‘real rulers’ whereas he was performing this duty as a humble public servant in contrast to it, the people was being looked upon as hapless subject (parja) seeking mercy from Capt. Amarinder Singh, who behaved like a ruler of a kingdom (state).

New Delhi, July 5, 2015: UGC has asked all vice chancellors to ensure institutes display on their websites the detailed fee structure and other expenses. UGC, in a communication to the VCs coinciding with the admission season, also said to make available the admission procedure and placement records on their websites. It has also asked them to display the profile of teachers and research output of the institution. Details of students' grievance mechanism and academic calender are some of the other points highlighted in the communication that has to be posted on the website. Institutes have been asked to report back to UGC about the action taken in 15 days.
Media reports that the move comes in the wake of spurt in complaints about institutes concealing information and misleading parents and their wards on tuition fee and other expenses. The development also comes against the backdrop of several advocacy groups demanding transparency in deciding fee structure by professional colleges and other institutes and also penalising institutes who fail to do so.
Last week, the HRD Ministry had also encouraged the students to visit the portal - 'know your college'. The portal is a single source platform to get information on more than 10,500 colleges which conduct about 14,000 programmes in technical education and covers 35,000 colleges conducting at least 20,000 programmes in non-technical education.....

Ferozepur, July 5, 2015: With the issuance of online transfer orders of teachers by the Education Department, by inviting online requests, the Punjab Government has added a milestone in the history of information technology by becoming a part of Digital India.
The government’s Digital India campaign is a welcome step in creating an India of the 21st century powered by connectivity, technology and the opportunity that such connectivity offers in terms of access, services and platforms for unleashing India’s creative talent.
The Punjab Government has fixed the transfer period of various government departments during the month of June. More than 23,000 applications for transfer in Primary and Secondary schools were received and it was unbelievable that within 3-4 days, the entire process was given a practical shape.
It is a new chapter in the history of education department that within 3-4 days, the Education Minister, Daljit Singh Cheema by putting the entire transfer orders of teachers on the web site of the concerned District Education Officers.
There is ray of hope and pleasures among the teachers community with the issue of transfer orders with due transparency and putting a noose on the corruption. It is now a talk of the town that teachers while sitting at home, without moving hither and thither and paying any bribe, have got the stations of their choice.
Talking to this correspondent, Hans Raj, spokesman of Punjab Education Reforms Committee said, during the last 8 years of SAD-BJP government, the teachers used to be after the Ministers, MPs, MLAs and the concerned offices at Chandigarh and adjustments after greasing the palm was a common thing. But now, the Education Minister, by using his wisdom has targeted two with one arrow – first by making the procedure of submitting the applications requesting for transfer to the choice stations and second, by doing the ground work for making adjustments by organizing meetings at the local level with the political leaders.
He further stated that all aspects have been kept in view while issuing the orders like minimum three years stay and availability of minimum 50 per cent staff on transfer, exemption to kandi and border areas for three years stay condition, priority to chronic patients, widows and bachelor girls were implemented strictly.
No doubt, certain leaders are not happy but the concerned DEOs have ignored the recommendations from the VVIPs even so far as the norms for transfers were set for any individual case, he added.
More-over, posting the transfers orders on the website, after its finalization, has given relief to the teachers for getting the endorsed orders which was inviting corruption in the department.
Speaking to this correspondent, Hans Raj, Principal, Spokesperson of Punjab Education Reforms Committee, Dr.Sukhbir Singh, DEO, Jagsir Singh Aawa, DEO, Ferozepur, Hari Chand Kamboj, DEO Fazilka in a joint statement said, “The way the teachers transfers have been scrutinized, orders issued and posted on the web-site, is itself a historical moment and teachers and bureaucracy both are happy over the procedure adopted which has raised the image of the Education Minister”.
As per the sources, the education department has received more than 23000 applications, out of which about 5,000 transfers have been ordered and within the next week, the whole process of transfers is expected to be finalized.
