Nevada (USA), July 5, 2015: Hindus are urging The Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA) of Australia to expedite the provenance of Krishna and Uma statues “identified as requiring further research”, and if proved stolen, return these to Hindu temples they originally belonged.

Queensland Government run QAGOMA has identified seven objects as "requiring further research" under its "Asian Art Provenance Research" project and the "supplied chain of ownership for these objects is currently being reviewed". These include a 13th century bronze "Krishna the jubilant butter thief" and 12th/13th century bronze "Shivakami Uma".

Distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, said that QAGOMA should make sure that its commitments to ethical standards were fully met and publish a definite timeline for completing the provenance investigations.

Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, urged all the museums and art galleries of the world, including Australia, to make sure when acquiring new Hindu artifacts in the future that these were not looted from Hindu religious centers and should follow strict due diligence procedures and have transparent provenance. Pillaging of Hindu temples and archeological sites for mercantile greed was not okay, Zed indicated.

Rajan Zed further said that devotees had been worshipping these images of Hindu deities for centuries and, if confirmed as stolen, the world should respect their feelings by making arrangements to respectfully return to the religious institutions these plundered antiquities rightfully belonged to before being stolen. He or other Hindu scholars would gladly assist if needed, Zed pointed out.

QAGOMA in Brisbane, whose Vision is “to be the leading institution for the contemporary art” and whose history goes back to 1895, holds a collection of over 16,000 works and is home to the Children's Art Centre and Cinémathèque. Sue Street, Chris Saines and Aaron Seeto are Trustees Chair, Director and Asian Art Curatorial Manager respectively of QAGOMA.

Hinduism is the oldest and third largest religion of the world with about one billion adherents and moksh (liberation) is its ultimate goal.....

Bundala, (Amritsar), July 5,2015 : Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal today said that Former Chief Minster and Congress Deputy Leader in Lok Sabha Capt. Amarinder Singh would never succeed in his nefarious designs to create a wedge between the holy alliance of SAD-BJP.
Talking to the media persons on the sidelines of the last leg of his three-day Sangat Darshan program in the Jandiala Guru assembly segement, Badal said that Capt. Amarinder Singh was hell bent upon to destabilize SAD-BJP alliance for sake of his own vested interest. He said, “Capt. Amarinder Singh knows well as long as SAD-BJP alliance was intact, he won’t be able to realize his dream to become the Chief Minister”. Mr. Badal said that former CM was all out to tarnish the image of SAD-BJP alliance government to project himself the future CM by making illogical and out of context statements which neither have an iota of truth nor any impact on the public.
Badal reminded Capt. Amarinder Singh of age old legacy of Congress party to ‘divide and rule’ and the later was too acting on the same agenda. Mr. Badal asked Capt. Amarinder Singh to realize his actual position in the state politics as he has been negated twice during the state assembly polls.
Training guns on the Capt. Amarinder Singh for making statement that the state was passing through severe agrarian crisis, the Chief Minister said that instead of accusing us, Captain should introspect himself, what he did to improve the lot of poor farmers during his tenure as CM. Mr. Badal asked the former CM to verify his record that it was during his tenure the poor farmers were deprived of free power in the farm sector whereas our government was still providing it to the peasantry at the cost of huge subsidy to tune of Rs. 5500 crore ,which was duly reimbursed by the state government to the PSPCL to make it economically viable and financially sustainable.
Badal lamented that Punjab had always on the agenda of least priority on the Congress leadership in Centre, adding he dared Capt. Amarinder Singh to explain what he secured in terms of any special package or major development project from the UPA government during his tenure. On the contrary, our government has got so many prestigious projects like AIIMS, IIM, National Horticulture Institute and Heritage status to holy city Amritsar within a short span of just 16 months.
He said Captain’s mass contact program across the state was a ploy whereas he was committed to give justice to the people at their door step thereby bridging the communication between the administration and the masses. Overwhelmed by the unbounded love and affection showered upon him by the people even for the fifth term as a Chief Minister, Mr. Badal said that it was his moral duty to serve the people who were the ‘real rulers’ whereas he was performing this duty as a humble public servant in contrast to it, the people was being looked upon as hapless subject (parja) seeking mercy from Capt. Amarinder Singh, who behaved like a ruler of a kingdom (state).

New Delhi, July 5, 2015: UGC has asked all vice chancellors to ensure institutes display on their websites the detailed fee structure and other expenses. UGC, in a communication to the VCs coinciding with the admission season, also said to make available the admission procedure and placement records on their websites. It has also asked them to display the profile of teachers and research output of the institution. Details of students' grievance mechanism and academic calender are some of the other points highlighted in the communication that has to be posted on the website. Institutes have been asked to report back to UGC about the action taken in 15 days.
Media reports that the move comes in the wake of spurt in complaints about institutes concealing information and misleading parents and their wards on tuition fee and other expenses. The development also comes against the backdrop of several advocacy groups demanding transparency in deciding fee structure by professional colleges and other institutes and also penalising institutes who fail to do so.
Last week, the HRD Ministry had also encouraged the students to visit the portal - 'know your college'. The portal is a single source platform to get information on more than 10,500 colleges which conduct about 14,000 programmes in technical education and covers 35,000 colleges conducting at least 20,000 programmes in non-technical education.....

By Harish Monga

Ferozepur, July 5, 2015: With the issuance of online transfer orders of teachers by the Education Department, by inviting online requests, the Punjab Government has added a milestone in the history of information technology by becoming a part of Digital India.
The government’s Digital India campaign is a welcome step in creating an India of the 21st century powered by connectivity, technology and the opportunity that such connectivity offers in terms of access, services and platforms for unleashing India’s creative talent.
The Punjab Government has fixed the transfer period of various government departments during the month of June. More than 23,000 applications for transfer in Primary and Secondary schools were received and it was unbelievable that within 3-4 days, the entire process was given a practical shape.
It is a new chapter in the history of education department that within 3-4 days, the Education Minister, Daljit Singh Cheema by putting the entire transfer orders of teachers on the web site of the concerned District Education Officers.
There is ray of hope and pleasures among the teachers community with the issue of transfer orders with due transparency and putting a noose on the corruption. It is now a talk of the town that teachers while sitting at home, without moving hither and thither and paying any bribe, have got the stations of their choice.
Talking to this correspondent, Hans Raj, spokesman of Punjab Education Reforms Committee said, during the last 8 years of SAD-BJP government, the teachers used to be after the Ministers, MPs, MLAs and the concerned offices at Chandigarh and adjustments after greasing the palm was a common thing. But now, the Education Minister, by using his wisdom has targeted two with one arrow – first by making the procedure of submitting the applications requesting for transfer to the choice stations and second, by doing the ground work for making adjustments by organizing meetings at the local level with the political leaders.
He further stated that all aspects have been kept in view while issuing the orders like minimum three years stay and availability of minimum 50 per cent staff on transfer, exemption to kandi and border areas for three years stay condition, priority to chronic patients, widows and bachelor girls were implemented strictly.
No doubt, certain leaders are not happy but the concerned DEOs have ignored the recommendations from the VVIPs even so far as the norms for transfers were set for any individual case, he added.
More-over, posting the transfers orders on the website, after its finalization, has given relief to the teachers for getting the endorsed orders which was inviting corruption in the department.
Speaking to this correspondent, Hans Raj, Principal, Spokesperson of Punjab Education Reforms Committee, Dr.Sukhbir Singh, DEO, Jagsir Singh Aawa, DEO, Ferozepur, Hari Chand Kamboj, DEO Fazilka in a joint statement said, “The way the teachers transfers have been scrutinized, orders issued and posted on the web-site, is itself a historical moment and teachers and bureaucracy both are happy over the procedure adopted which has raised the image of the Education Minister”.
As per the sources, the education department has received more than 23000 applications, out of which about 5,000 transfers have been ordered and within the next week, the whole process of transfers is expected to be finalized.

"I always wanted to be an IAS officer as it was my father and grandfather's dream. I am happy that I could make them proud today," he said. Before pursuing the law course, he did his mechanical engineering from a private college. His father is posted as chief manager with Markfed, Punjab, and mother an associate professor at government college in Sector 11.

The second topper from the tricity is Paramvir Singh of Panchkula, who has been ranked 29th. He is a practising lawyer at the Punjab and Haryana high court and had passed out from National Law School, Delhi. It was his second attempt.

Paramvir's father Satpal Singh had expired some years ago. His mother Kamlesh is a housewife. "I took some coaching from Delhi before the prelims. I used to put five hours daily for studies," he said.

The lone girl among the top five from the tricity, Priyanka Mehtani, 25, has been ranked 59th. She wishes to join Indian Foreign Services. "I am interested in international relations and thus would like to serve as an IFS officer. I could not qualify for the civil services last year, but I didn't lose faith and believed in myself. Chandigarh, July 4, 2015: The Chamber of Chandigarh Industries hailed the administration's recommendations for allowing the transfer of the properties from leasehold to the free hold, increasing the FAR and allowing need based changes to the Ministry of Home.
Vinod Mittal, chairman of the Chamber of Chandigarh Industries said that the positive approach of the Administrator Prof Kaptan Singh Solanki and Adviser Vijay Kumar Dev has raised the hopes of the residents that their long pending demands will be fulfilled now. He said the after the recently announced industrial policy the new steps will provide the much needed relief to the property owners.
He said that the Chamber of Chandigarh Industries raised these demands earlier while giving suggestions to the industrial policy.
He said the FAR of the industrial plots should be increased from existing .75 to 2 so that the future growth of the industrial area can be possible. Without increasing the FAR the industrialists can not expand their business.
He added that all over the country, conversion of leasehold property to freehold had been allowed but not in the city.
This is injustice to the industrialists who worked hard for the growth of the city over the years.
He said that a committee formed under the chairmanship of the former DC had also recommended the same but that was not implemented due to the various reasons.
Mittal said that allowing the conversion of industrial plots from leasehold to free hold will be a win- win situation for both the administration and the industrialists. He said that while the administration will get huge revenue from the conversion of the plots the industrialists will also be able benefit by it.
He said that sub-committee of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs has also recommended that the UT Administration should consider conversion of industrial plots from leasehold into freehold. Conversion of leasehold properties into freehold is a long-pending demand of local industrialists. All industrial properties auctioned or allotted after 1980 were given on a leasehold basis. Before this, the properties were given on a freehold basis. " As much as 90 per cent of the industrial properties are leasehold and industrialists contend that they cannot get loans against such properties, or sell these." he said.

The CAIT leaders Bhimsen Agarwal and Manmohan Goyal also stressed the need of a nationwide awareness campaign on proposed GST for disseminating information on proposed GST.
Jaitley while giving a patient hearing to the delegation said that once the GST Bill is passed by Parliament and subsequently by State legislatures, separate Bills for CGST and IGST will need to be passed by Parliament and SGST Bill will be passed by State legislatures and at that time the stakeholders will be consulted and their apprehensions will be suitably addressed. He also informed that GST rates will be finalised by GST Council comprising of Union & State Governments Finance Ministers. Jaitley said that GST is aimed to avoid distortions in tax regime due to multiplicity of taxes & exemption and at the same time will give every opportunity to traders and other stakeholders to make a voluntary compliance which will result into widening of tax base.
