With the outcome of the results of Assembly elections in five States – Uttar Pardesh, Punjab, Utrakhand, Goa and Manipur – the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) have become stronger. Not only this, the power of Narendera Modi PM and Amit Shah, Party President have also increased mani-fold.
In fact, the morale of BJP which has gone down after its defeat in Delhi and Bihar Assembly elections but has improved now as all eyes were on UP elections and in the final outcome of the results, BJP is considered to be writing the history for the next general elections.
This is the reason, the BJP has fully concentrated on UP than other states. Narendera Modi addressed number of rallies in the last leg of his campaign and it was considered that SP and BSP parties will give a tough fight to BJP. After the voting, the exit polls were also not predicting clear majority for BJP but it was a miracle for BJP in the final results which the party itself was not expecting. Anyhow these results have proved that the minds of voters are changing by putting a question mark on caste, religion and all equations.
The results of Punjab were known to the people who have resentment towards SAD and BJP alliance government. Anti-incumbency move was working from the very beginning but Aam Aadmi Party was being seen as a strong party but the voters supported Congress rejecting the AAP.
In Utrakhand also, BJP was expected to get the benefit against unsatisfactory working of Harish Rawat government. In Goa and Manipur too, Congress and BJP were face to face when BJP leaders rejected in Goa and AAP was in fray. But the voters have selected between BJP and Congress making it clear that voters have started accepting the national parties than the regional and small parties. This is the reason that the people who were not expecting any force in the Congress, too get a chance and in Punjab got a full majority and in Goa and Manipur emerged as a big party.
Some things have become crystal clear after a massive victory of BJP in UP. One, the alliance is still intact which it got at the time of Lok Sabha elections. Second, the resentment on demonetization proved wrong. Caste equations have also changed. SP party lost its vote bank and apart of Yadav, other OBC castes moved in favour of BJP. Likewise Dalit vote also stand divided and BJP got some of its share. Muslim vote too divided between SPA, BSP, Congress and Independents and this way, BJP started growing in the meantime.
Frankly speaking, despite all these changes, it cannot be denied that the Modi factor is still in existence in UP and it is felt that with the formation of BJP government, the development doors could be opened besides employment opportunities. Particularly in UP, it will be a challenge for Modi and BJP to come to the expectations of people particularly in UP especially when the voters have started rejecting the regional parties.
