Transparency and accountability are two crucial facets of good governance; and when it comes to E-governance practices in India, Punjab is the best epitome in the said domain. Thanks to the enormous support and endeavour of the state government for fulfilling the dream project of E-governance in the state, which was initiated earlier by Captain Amarinder Singh, Honorable Chief Minister of Punjab.
E-Governance is the latest concept in administrative reforms sweeping across the country by rendering various citizen-centric services pertaining to issuance and renewal of Birth & Death Certificate, Identity Card Services, Aadhar and Passport related services,Payment of Property Tax, Affidavit Attestation, Bus Passes, Electricity Bill Payment and several other services stated under the Punjab Right to Services Act, 2011.
In regard to the above cited services, what people expect from a responsible Government is to garner a blend of cost-effective and time-bound services, transparent policy, no third party intrusion and a corruption-free work structure. With incorporation of 2,147 Sewa Kendras in the state, all such expectations of the citizens of Punjab seem to be turned practical in no time. Not only this; in just a matter of little over an year of operation, more than 80lakh applications covering approximately 170 services are reported to be processed with an influx of enormous8 million footfall across these Sewa Kendras. This accomplishment is a sheer indication of the extent of faith that the people of Punjab have in their Government. Being the single-point of contact, all these Kendras are setup in a close proximity of 2.5– 3 kms, which has not only curbed down the travel time of every citizen in the state but also made the citizen services availablefor them in a hassle-free manner.
In addition to being a trustworthy E-governance service provider, these Sewa Kendras have enriched the livelihood of more than 7200 people in the state which includes25% women workforce and 1% handicapped individuals. Taking this thriving E-governance model further in the state, BLS International, one of the acknowledged leaders in the provision of Government to Citizen (G-to-C)services, have come up with the following initiatives to bring good governance practices at the door step of the citizen of Punjab:
• Organising effective camps at different blocks, Tehsils and Gurudwaras of Punjab for introducing the varied range of services catered at Punjab Sewa Kendras (PSK).
• Incorporating different camps for Army personnel and schools pertaining to Aadhar services.
• Initiating Tree Plantation drives and relevant awareness programs in the state.
With incessant progress and faith amongst the citizens of Punjab regarding good governance, it is expected that in coming one year, 50 percent population of the state would start visiting these Kendras for fulfilling their varied government documentation requirements. The flourishing E-governance services in Punjab is an example for other states in the country as well.
