Lot of noise is out there about sustainability, sustainable living, sustainable environment.
Issues like global warming, water pollution, air pollution, soil pollution has always been discussed since last few decades and efforts have also been made but recently in 2015 this new term came into being, ‘sustainable’ when United Nations decided to achieve 17 UNSDG’s by the 2030 addressing to all the problems faced all over the world in terms of environment, population, children, education, poverty and hunger.
Slowly, this global effort started seeping down to the organizations, institutions, schools and ultimately to every individual who is connected with the field of education and sustainability.
Sustainability cannot be taught; it is a thought process and it needs to be imbibed by an individual in his or her own life and the way of living.
Sustainability is all about individual conscious efforts.
Humans have always been aware of the hazards of industrialization and urbanization and are very much aware of the harms that we cause to the environment in all these processes but there is a lot of ignorance at our part because we think that someone else will come to save our planet, our environment.
We need to understand that we do not have a ‘Planet B’. We need to understand that we do not nurture nature instead nature nurtures us!
Sustainability is all about how we can coexist with our environment.
Sustainability is about creating a balance between the environment and all the living species on earth so that every resource is available in its real form for the survival of all the living beings on earth.
Why humans have to play a major role in this? It is because other animal species or plant species do not harm environment for their benefit instead, they live by having a balance with the environment but humans have been on a spree to continuously harness and not replenish our environment enough so that it can sustain on its own.
The clean air, clean water, healthy food and all the natural resources available in nature make our life healthy in all respects but the irony is, the ones using all these are only exploiting these resources.
The consumption rate is very high and the rate of regeneration of these resources has gone down because the other half of the resources which are available are polluted. All this could not continue for long and hence sustainable life came to rescue and mankind started becoming more sensible towards its environment.
The only lifestyle that is acceptable now is, ‘sustainable lifestyle’. It starts from the time you get up in the morning till the time you sleep at night.
Your one conscious effort to reduce pollution and to make responsible choices makes a big contribution to sustainable environment.
Make your choices sustainable that will last for many decades to come. Let’s be a part of the solution now as we have been very active in creating pollution!
Here’s homework for you all, follow Ethical fashion, believe in 4 Rs ( Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Recover), stop the use of Single use plastic, Segregate your waste, reduce your Carbon Footprint, encourage your children to save water, save energy, make optimum use of the resources available, buy less and choose well.
‘What you do makes a difference and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.’
