As some of you may already know I had been writing a memoir. With a laptop in hand and as a two finger typist it took me a year and a half to produce a first draft of close to 300,000 words. I knew it was way too long. Chris Lobante my Figure.1 publisher suggested I chop off at least 50,000 words; I eliminated 100,000 of them. Then the editor Barbara Pulling took over and further shortened and shaped it. The book with the photographs and an index is now published at 448 pages.
The Journey After Midnight is now in the bookstores. It captures my entire life; and only about a quarter of it is about my life after I first got elected in 1991.
It is the story of a kid born and raised in a dusty village in the Indian Punjab, travelling to England and then to Canada.
The official book launch is on Tuesday, May 17 between 5 and 7 PM at the University of British Columbia in the Robert H Lee Alumni Center, 6163 University Blvd, Vancouver.
I know many of you are lovers of books and politics. So I felt I should let you know so you could pick up your copy of the book, if so inclined.
Happy Reading.
