Amritsar, May 07, 2020: Shriomani Gurdwara Pharbandhak Committee here today slammed the Deputy Commissioner to make an announcement with regard to opening of liquor vends from the premises of Gurdwaras of Shri Mukthsar Sahib.
SGPC Chief Secretary Dr. Roop Singh said that Sikh shrines were most pious and holiest place for devotees and purpose of these places to recite the name of Almighty.
“Shockingly enough, Deputy Commissioner Shri Muktsar Sahib issued orders to make announcements from the premises of Sikh shrines about intoxicants (liquor) which is totally against the Sikh tenets”, Roop Singh said adding that orders issued by the deputy commissioner have hurt the sentiments of Sikh community by and large.
Chief Secretary further said that deputy commissioner should be asked for explanation. He said it was highly unfortunate that deputy commissioners being posted in the historic town of Punjab sans knowledge about Sikhism and its tenets as well as Sikh history .
He said that Deputy Commissioners in Punjab should be given posting having sound knowledge about Sikh history as well as traditions of Punjabi culture. He said that Muktsar Sahib was land of Sikh martyrs and order issued by the deputy commissioner had direct hit on the history of Punjab.
