Jalandhar, August 8, 2020: In its commitment to eliminate the illicit liquor trade by taking stringent action under massive drive, Jalandhar Commissionerate Police and Jalandhar Rural Police have so far registered 1084 cases and arrested 1130 persons involved in the liquor smuggling, bootlegging and illicit distillation of liquor from January 1 to July 31 besides seized 359510-kg Lahan.
Divulging the details, Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that as many as 496 cases had been registered in various police stations besides made 557 arrests. Bhullar said that the commissioner police had also recovered 1430-kg Lahan, 167-liter illicit liquor and 15094-liter English wine. He added that preventive action had also been taken against 68 smugglers in the city.
SSP Jalandhar Rural Satinder Singh said that it had registered 588 cases in various police stations and nabbed 573 persons. He told that the rural police had also recovered 358080 KG lahan, 7100-liter illicit liquor and 26994-liter English win.
Commissioner of Police and Senior Superintendent of Police said that the joint teams of the Police along with the Excise department were formed at the Tehsil and Sub Divisional for round the clock vigil to wipe out the illicit liquor trade from the district.
They said that strict action was being taken against such persons, including under the relevant provisions of Excise Act, Disaster Management and Epidemics Act, etc.
Moreover, they told that special checking points had been set up to check liquor smuggling and bootlegging in the district.
They said that the teams were working jointly to ensure that the liquor smuggling, bootlegging and illicit distillation of liquor, if any, in the district was checked efficaciously.
They added that any sort of diligence on part of the officer was unwarranted and undesirable.
