S.A.S. Nagar, June 25, 2016: Mohali Senior Citizens Association Organized a well attended function to create awareness of excesses (elderly abuse) faced by the elderly, their economic, social health, and legal concerns. Sh. D.S. Mangat IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Mohali, was the chief guest.
Sh. D.S.Mangat, Deputy Commissioner appreciated the welfare activities of the Association. He said that in India we have rich tradition of respecting our elderly. Unlike the West, we have strong family structure. All efforts should be made by the society to ensure that inter-generational bonds don't get eroded. He assured that all the concerns of the senior citizens including regular holding of the meetings will get due attention. It is duty of all of us to ensure that the Elderly live life with dignity and comfort. He shared that large number of development activities are in process in the district. He also mentioned that library buildings are now under construction in six main parks of Mohali and the senior citizens should take full advantage of this facility. Senior Citizens are good resource of experience and intellect and those among who can spare some time must volunteer their services to the society and the administration.
Dr Amarjit singh khehra, Chairman of Mohali Association and of federation of Associations, deliberated on Policies and Acts concerning senior citizens. The participants and the Cheif guest were welcomed by President of the Association, Sh. J.S. Thukral. He also listed the activities of the Association comprising 1700 plus life members and shared how the Association is trying to meet their social, entertainment, health, education and general information needs.
