18.66 crore subsidy given to consumers buying EVs in Chandigarh: TC Nautiyal
3700 people installed roof top system on their houses in the city

Chandigarh, March 16, 2024: People in Chandigarh are increasingly interested in buying electric vehicles in the city beautiful Chandigarh. Since the implementation of the EV policy in September 2022, the Chandigarh administration has provided a subsidy of Rs 18.66 crore to people on purchasing EVs.
Secretary of Science and Technology Department IFS officer T.C. Nautiyal said while addressing a seminar on EV Infrastructure and Green Hydrogen Mobility on the second day of EV Expo being organized by PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
He said that till now this subsidy has been given on the purchase of 3001 EVs in the city. He said that e-rickshaws are also increasing in the city.
Currently more than 2800 e-rickshaws are plying in the city.He said that while 886 government residences, government buildings, colleges and hospitals have been converted to solar, so far more than 3700 ordinary citizens have promoted green energy by installing solar systems in their homes.
Nautiyal said that plans are being implemented by the administration in such a way that green and clean cities are converted into solar cities by the year 2030.
Bharti Sood, regional director of PhD Chamber of Commerce and Industry while welcoming the guests said that the main objective of this event is to make the city residents aware of EV and green energy. He said that apart from city dwellers, students of various colleges participated in today's event.
On this occasion, Head of Metallurgical Department, Punjab Engineering College, Dr. JD Sharma said that EV and solar devices are becoming a major part of future life.
It will play an important role in reducing pollution. Many dignitaries including Parav Arora, Narayan Kumar Sreekumar, Ishwinder Mann, convener of PhDCCI Renewal Energy Committee were present on this occasion.
EV in Himachal Pradesh
Electric vehicles will be included in the Himachal government's fleet. In the seminar organized by PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Principal Secretary IAS R.D.Nazim of Himachal said that while the number of electric buses in the fleet of HRTC is being continuously increased by the state government, the youth E-taxi are being provided under Self Employment Stratup Yojana.
Himachal is a tourist state. In such a situation, efforts are being made to convert running vehicles into EVs for the convenience of tourists coming from outside. Hundreds of youths have benefited from this.
