Ludhiana, July 1, 2016
As Ludhiana is going to be a smart city, the basic utilities being provided by its Municipal Corporation (MC) to the residents, should also be delivered in a smart way. So the MC is going to organize a conference on GIS technology on Monday, July 4, 2016. Two private companies would give presentation to the officials as to how the concerned MC officials can utilize the GIS system in providing all the public utilities.
The city residents visit the MC offices for their routine jobs but when it would be a smart city then people need not to make bee lines at various counters in the offices. It is with this aim two companies named Map My India and Tech Mahindra are participating in the conference. The representatives of these companies would show the civic officials as to how they can make use of geometric information system in their routine jobs like water supply, sewerage, roads etc.
The MCL Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori said that main aim of this conference would be to know about the IT technologies with the help of which they could provide better and efficient civic services to the general public. He also told that another GIS company named ESRI has also approached MCL and will be hosting a seminar after July 10.
It is pertinent to mention here that MCL is also getting a GIS survey of all properties done in the city. The survey of the properties through GIS and then its physical verification through door to door visit are almost complete. Through this GIS survey the department has got generated 16 digits unique identity numbers (UID) for all the properties in the city. Once these UID numbers would be allocated to public the department would be able to get detail of any property through this number at just one click.
