Expect out-of-the box ideas from the new Punjab governor and UT administrator VP Singh Badnore, who also promised happiness to residents, minutes after taking oath at the Punjab Raj Bhawan on Monday.
“I have known Punjab from a distance, but can we take it in a different way…Out-ofthe-box ideas, especially for Chandigarh,” he said, talking to a select group of mediapersons.
“It’s not just the brick and mortar or environment or infrastructure, but it’s the humane touch which is so important because basically happiness comes from being there for the underprivileged and the physically challenged,” he said.
“In any society, development and happiness should go together and reach every strata of the society. The benefit must reach the scheduled castes and the underprivileged, and we need to strive for it,” he said.
On Day 1 in office, Badnore stated categorically that he would devote time to the City Beautiful. “I deem it a privilege that I will be staying here,” he said. “This city has created many a milestone in the field of urban architecture design and town planning. The recent decision of UNESCO to tag Capitol Complex as Heritage Architectural site of Le Corbusier adds to its lustre.”
Earlier, the swearing-in ceremony lasted less than 10 minutes. The rain gods seemed to be waiting for the ceremony to finish. After the ceremony, everyone, including the governor, headed towards the tea-pandal when it suddenly started pouring and all scrambled for cover.
The umbrellas were called and the governor was rushed inside the Raj Bhawan. Not all were that fortunate and many got drenched to the skin. Those who were closer to the waterproof tents managed to save th l f th i M were seen hiding under the tarpaulin until the rain subsided.
