FEROZEPUR: In view of rise of Dengu Fever cases in Ferozepur to 65 including two jawans of the BSF, Deputy Commissioner Er.DPS Kharbanda, paid special visit to the Civil Hospital to take stock of the situation.
Sensing seriousness of the situation, he also, visited the dengue ward at the civil hospital and enquired about medical services being offered to the patients admitted there.
State medical authorities have announced free treatment for dengue patients at civil hospitals, but in the wake of shortage of platelet transfusion facilities, patients have no option but to shell out Rs.40,000-50,000 for treatment at private hospitals, sources said.
Presently, we have 65 dengue patients till Friday while we are aware of the situation and the number of beds in the dengue ward at the local civil hospital has been increased and awareness campaigns in schools and public places were launched well in time, said Jai Singh, civil surgeon, Ferozepur.
The situation is likely to improve with dip in mercury as dengue mosquito is active in the 16 to 32 degree C temperature. But people should also take the required precautions,” said the civil surgeon. Meanwhile,
Er.Kharbanda asked the Civil Surgeon to start a campaign in the district to make people aware of the precautions to avoid dengue. While giving instructions to the civic authorities to fine the houses/offices if any larva of dengue is found there.
Under the Punjab Municipal Act 1911 Section 211 and 219 under which challan for fine between Rs.500-11000 could be served for violation of the Act. During last year, about 300 dengue cases were detected in the town.
