Ludhiana October 24, 2016: For keeping a complete check on the lifting of garbage and its disposal the BSNL will get GPS system in the garbage lifting vehicles in the city and for this purpose the Municipal Corporation Ludhiana will sign MOU with BSNL. After this agreement BSNL will establish eSBM an Information and Communications Technology (ICT) platform for tracking and monitoring of all the vehicles engaged in collection and transportation of solid waste on an exclusive basis.
It is pertinent to mention here that BSNL and Union Ministry of Urban Development have signed MOU through which BSNL has been entrusted with the responsibility of providing e SBM platform for monitoring of solid waste management at all urban local bodies level across country. Therefore now MCL will also sign agreement with BSNL so that garbage lifting could take place properly.
Under this platform BSNL will fit SIM based vehicle tracking device in the garbage lifting vehicle and after creating user accounts on the eSBM portal for MCL they will be able to monitor the fleet status, routes, distance travelled, halts etc. BSNL will also provide suitable web forms and applications on eSBM platform to gather waste collection and transportation data from the field staff/waste disposal points of MCL. Facility to submit waste collection report through SMS will also be provided.
The staff of MCL will be provided facility to send vehicle breakdown report through SMS also. The eSBM portal will also provide a public web portal which can be accessed by the citizens of the city to view the garbage cleaning reports, vehicles in operation, waste handling statistics etc.
The MCL Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori said that various other MCs in state have already signed this agreement and now MCL will do the same followed by which they will be able to track the garbage lifting vehicles easily. He claimed that in the past garbage lifting being done by A to Z has remained in controversy and this platform will help in curbing these controversies.
