Hussainiwala (Ferozepur), March 23, 2017: In an event first of its kind, about 200 Punjab police cops in uniform participated in a mass cycle rally 1400 youth who pedaled 120 kms to reach Hussainiwala memorial of Shaheed Bhagat Singh near here on Thursday.
The rally had begun from the 1971 War Memorial at Asifwala in Fazilka district Wednesday morning with a motto of connecting the youth through cycling and inculcating patriotism in them.
The event was organized by Fazilka district police to commemorate the 87th martyrdom day of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev.
The mass cycle rally, a brain child of Fazilka SSP Ketan Baliram Patil, who also cycled the entire stretch of 120 kms, was given a warm welcome by Ferozepur divisional commissioner V K Meena and Ferozepur’s newly appointed Deputy Commissioner Ramvir.
Amid the beats of patriotic songs, cyclists led by Patil and accompanied by Gaurav Garg, SSP Ferozepur, Om Pal Singh, Chief executive officer, cantonment board, Ferozepur, leading physicians Kamal Baghi and Parveen Dhingra, early morning paid reverence at the historical Gurdwara Saragarhi before reaching the martyr memorial in Hussainiwala.
Patil said that the main purpose of this cycle rally was to connect the youth for promoting cycling to furnish green and clean environment and to ignite spirit of patriotism among them under community policing initiative.
The organizers presented a token of respect to state Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal at the state level event held by state government at Hussainiwala.
