Hoshiarpur: May 24, 2017: (APS Brar) Mr V.P.Singh Badnore, Governor Punjab and Administrator Chandigarh today called upon the people in general and said there was an urgent need to evolve a comprehensive and combined strategy to save underground water and vegetation.
Speaking at the function organised by Parkash Rai Khanna and Smt. Kaushalya Devi Khanna Memorial trust together with a NGO named “SEWA” at PRTC Jahankhelan, Mr Badnore said that Managing fresh water as a sustainable resource requires various strategies and activities in order to protect life by meeting all the water demands. Reducing the level of fresh drinking water is very serious issue for this huge worldwide population and increasing need of people for water especially in the manufacturing and agricultural irrigation.
He also said that water conservation is necessary to fulfil the goal of future generations. It reduces the use of energy because water management require around 15% of the total electricity consumption. It also involve in the habitat conservation for the local wildlife and migrating waterfowl. It reduces need of building other dams or water diversion infrastructures.
Appreciating the Save Water Campaign launched by Parkash Rai Khanna and Smt. Kaushalya Divi Khanna Memorial Trust, the Governor said thatthe same campaign must be carried forward to make it a forceful movement in future. According to a survey about 1, 25,000 litres of water is being saved daily after the launch of this Save Water Campaign, he added.
Paying tributes to numerous known and unknown soldiers who sacrificed during the freedom struggle of the country at the War Memorial, Mr Badnore said that it’s a salute to the bravery of the Punjabis and the soil of Hoshiarpur that maximum number of martyrs belonged to this part of the country. He also honoured eight families of martyrs and also presented cheques for marriage purposes to 3 beneficiary families.
Speaking on the occasion, Avinash Rai Khanna Vice Chairman of Indian Red Cross Society also made a fervent appeal to all those present to come forward and join hands in saving water. He also informed that the Trust has now taken up the task of educating the public to SAVE Water for future. Although it’s very simple to save water but we seldom pay attention especially when we use or rather misuse this essential commodity recklessly.
