New Delhi, May 29, 2017: Minister for Urban Development, Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation and Information and Broadcasting M. Venkaiah Naidu on Monday visited the family of the deceased e-rickshaw driver Ravindra Kumar who was beaten to death in northwest Delhi's Mukherjee Nagar area on Saturday after he stopped two people from urinating in public.
The Minister gave a cheque of Rs 50,000 in his personal capacity to the family of the driver as a temporary relief. After speaking with Lieutenant Governor, Naidu said that the LG has agreed to give a grant of Rs.5, 00,000 as a relief, to the family of deceased on behalf of Delhi administration.
The Minister also spoke to Municipal Commissioner of North-West Delhi aho agreed to provide temporary employment to the spouse of the deceased driver.
Earlier in the day, the Minister expressed grief over the whole incident and tweeted, "Sad that an e-rickshaw driver was beaten to death for stopping 2 people from urinating in public in Delhi. He was promoting Swachh Bharat." He has also spoken to Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik and asked him to take "strongest action possible" against the culprits.
