Moga, June 21, 2017 : Private as well as government doctors, paramedical staff, class IV and Rural Medical Officers headed by Punjab Civil Medical Association Punjab (PCMSA) staged a protest and shut the OPD for two hours against an alleged assault on specialist MD medicine doctor Raminder Sharma by some unidentified persons. Dr. Raminder Sharma was intercepted by the attackers at Lala Lajpta Rai international school at Amritsar road near Landhe ke village last evening when he was going for swimming at the school swimming pool. The doctor was seriously injured in the assault and was rushed to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) Ludhiana. He is still in Intensive care unit with a head injury. The attackers had fled with Creta car.
During the protest civil surgeon Moga Dr Narinder Singh and all other programme officers and Senior Medical Officers of all the hospitals across the district, representatives of Indian Medical Association (IMA) Dr RamesH Mittal, Dr Navraj Singh, Dr Arun Agarnwal, Dr Vinod Garg, Dr Rajesh Agarwal and Dr Ritesh Kumar addressed the protesting doctors and staff and demanded justice from the police administration at the earliest. A delegation of the PCMSA headed by state president Dr Gagandeep Singh and organizing secretary Dr Indervir Singh Gill met Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Moga and demanded quick action and arrest of the culprits. The representatives of paramedical association Rachhpal Singh Sosan, Raj Kumar Dhudike, Joginder Singh Mahla, Rajesh Kumar Bharadwaj, Chaman Lal and Parminder Sabharwal also addressed and supported the agitation.
The hospital OPDs and other offices across the district including community health centres (CHCs) and Primary Health Centres (PHCs) remained closed for two hours from 10 am to 12 am. The patients and other visiting people suffered a lot but they seemed to have sympathy with the victim doctors.
It is pertinent to mention that most of the people across the district are well familiar with Dr Raminder Sharma for his polite behavior towards the patients and his clinical skills.
