Nawanshahr, August 14, 2017: "UPKAR" , District level NGOs Coordination Society, Nawanshahr, which has earned kudos for launching crusade against the social evils like female foeticide and menace of drugs, has added another feather to its crown of glory.
It has started " Panghura" ( Cradle) project to save and nurture the precious lives of unwanted newly born babies", this was stated by the Deputy Commissioner, Sonali Giri after inaugurating " Panghura" project here today.
" Sometimes there arises such situations in which the mothers for avoiding social disgrace, are forced to abandon their newly born babies", further said the DC while adding that now the " UPKAR" Society had provided an opportunity for them to put the baby in the " Panghura" instead of abandoning in distress. It would save the life of the infant. The district administration would provide the immediate medical facility to the infants put into the " Panghura" . Afterwards, the " Adoption Agencies" would be contacted for ensuring proper nurturing of the infants. No verification about the biological parents would be done.
MLA, Angad Singh, in his address said that his father late Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Parkash Singh, had supported the social cause of the " UPKAR" Society, when it was founded more than a decade ago. The MLA assured that he would also be quite happy to extend cooperation to the NGO for creating awareness among the masses against the social evils.
