Chandigarh, October 11, 2017: Top seed Faisal Qamar from Rajasthan defeated 5th seed Kunal Vazirani of Maharastra in straight set 6-4, 6-4 in the men's singles quarter-final of "The Tribune” Chandigarh State Tennis Championships for Men and Women and CLTA-AITA Championship Series (CS-7) Tennis Tournaments for Boys and Girls under-14 at the Sector 10 Tennis Stadium here today.
Qualifier 8th seed Anvit Bendre moved into semifinals as he defeated Paramveer Singh Bajwa in a easy match 6-1, 6-2. Fourth seed Mohit Mayur and 6th seed Vijay Kanan also moved into semifinals.
SOHA STUNS 2ND SEED SARA: Soha S. caused a big upset by shocking second seed Sara Yadav in a 3 setter match in the women's quarter-final outing. Soha lost the 1st set 2-6. One set down Soha fought back and won the second and third sets 6-1, 7-6(6). In another quarter-final match Shaikh Humera defeated Vanshita Pathania in straight sets 6-1, 7-6(4).
Shrishti Daas and Snehal Mane also moved into semifinals.
In the men’s doubles quarterfinals top seed Anvit Bendre/ Ankit Chopra defeated Parikshit Somani / Paramveer Singh Bajwa in close match 6-4, 4-6, 12-10.
In the women’s doubles quarterfinals Himaanshika / Ashpreet Kaur Bajwa defeated Adrija Biswas / Dakshita Girishkumar 6-4, 2-6, 11-9.
In the boys under-14 singles quarterfinals top seed Gaurav Kumar of CLTA defeated 6th seed Aryan Thakur in straight sets 7-5, 6-3. Fourth seed Parth Goel defeated Wyatt ‘O’ Brein 6-3, 6-2. Sarthak Arora also moved into semifinals.
HARNOOR UPSETS TOP SEED PAWANDEEP: In the girl’s under-14 singles quarterfinals 6th seed Harnoor Kaur Sidhu defeated top seed Pawandeep Kaur in straight sets. 6-3, 6-2. Second seed Riya Kaushik defeated Anusha Verma in a easy match 6-0, 6-0. Catherine Bhangu and Shreya Gautam also moved into semifinals.
