New Delhi, October 16, 2017: Environment Minister Imran Hussain on Monday appealed to the residents of Delhi to celebrate an environment-friendly festival of lights and spread awareness against firecrackers, as part of Clean Diwali – Green Diwali.
The minister made these remarks addressing an Eco-Friendly Initiative Awareness Programme, as the Chief Guest at Gyan Mandir Public School, E-Block, Naraina Vihar, New Delhi.
The Programme included an anti-fire Cracker Campaign by the Eco-club students, who also an anti-firecracker rally and a Clean Delhi Campaign.
The main aim of the rally was to connect students with the community for creating awareness by explaining the harmful effects of firecrackers. Students carried placards, posters, and performed road skits, etc.
Awareness rally started from Gyan Mandir Public School, E-Block and covered G & H.
The Minister emphasized the need to take steps for improving the ambient air quality of the national capital.
He further stated that the prosperous festival of Diwali is the festival of lights and diyas and we should all restrain from bursting fire-crackers, which only contribute to air as well as noise pollution. Hussain said through the sale of fire-crackers has been banned by the Hon’ble Supreme Court, but still, every citizen of Delhi has to ensure that fire-crackers are not burst.
