Nawanshahr, October 16, 2017: Deputy Commissioner, Sonali Giri , today, inaugurated "Diwali Mela" dedicated to the conclusion of the " Beti Bachao' Beti Parhao" awareness week here at Baradari Garden. She greets as many as 31 mothers of newly born girls and honoured the anganwari supervisors and workers belonging to 5 blocks of the district, who have contributed towards the success of the week long campaign. The DC visited the stalls set up by different government and non government organisations at the Mela. The school students and artists of different groups presented cultural programme based on the " Beti Bachao, Beti Parhao" theme.
Addressing the gathering, she exhorted all sections of the society to launch concerted efforts for bringing in change in the mind set of the society towards girl child. " The success of the week long " Beti Bachao, Beti Parhao" campaign should followed by zest to convert the campaign into a mass movement", said the Deputy Commissioner while adding that all sections of the society should join hands to bring in the change in the mind set of the society.
" There is a lot of hard work is to be done to bring in the mind set of the society towards the girl child. We should start concerted efforts to resolve the issues like security of the girls , dowry etc. so that the parents should not consider the girl child as a burden", further said the DC.
Assistant Commissioner ( Grievances) Sarbjit Kaur, Assistant Commissioner( General) Anamjyot Kaur, Assistant Commissioner ( Under Training) Arshdeep Singh, Civil Surgeon, Dr. Gurinder Kaur Chawla, District Family Welfare Officer, Dr. Sukhwinder Singh Heera, Social activist Jaspal Singh Gidda, among others, were present on the occasion.
