Amritsar, October 21, 2017: The Zonal Youth Festival of ‘B’ Zone was inaugurated here today in the Dasmesh Auditorium of Guru Nanak Dev University. The colleges of Gurdaspur, Pathankot and Tarn Taran districts are participating in this festival. The festival was started with the competition of Bhangra.
As many as 800 Student-artists from 20 colleges are participating in 34 items of Music, Theatre, Dance, Literary & Fine Arts. This festival will conclude on October 24. These competitions are being organized simultaneously on four different stages in the University Campus i.e. Dasmesh Auditorium, Guru Nanak Bhawan, Sangat Hall and Conference Hall.
Gurjit Singh Aujla,, Member of Parliament, Amritsar formally inaugurated this festival by lighting the lamp while Smt.Undleeb Roy Aujala was the guest of honor. Dr. Nirmal Jaura, Director Youth Welfare, PU, Chandigarh and S. Pritam Singh Bharowal, Chariman, Baba Farid Foundation International were the special guests on this occasion. Dr. Jagjit Kaur, Director, Youth Welfare welcomed the chief guest and others. She gave detail of the achievements of Youth Welfare Department.
Aujla said there is dire need of these types of festivals to revive our rich cultural heritage and make it popular amongst our youth. He said that youth should participate in these activities to learn the sense of discipline and team work.
Today, the festival was started with the competition of Bhangra. The items of Group Shabad/Bhajan, Group Song Indian,Vaar Gayan, Kavishri, Painting, Cartooning, Poster making and Photography was held. On October 22, the competitions of Mime, Costume Exhibition, Mimcry, Skit, Folk Orchestra, Geet/Gazal, Folk Song, Quiz, Rangoli and Phulkari, will be organized.
Similarly, On October 23, the competitions of One Act Play, General Dance, Classical Instrumental Percussion, Classical Instrumental Non-Percussion, Classical Vocal, Poetical Symposium, Allocution and Debate will be organized. Dr. Jagjit Kaur said that on the final day i.e.October 24, the items of Classical Dance, Western Vocal Solo and Western Group Song and Gidha would be organized followed by prize distribution function.
