Nawanshahr, November 13, 2017: The Nawanshahr MLA, Angad Singh, too, has come in favour of the local residents on the issue of pollution being caused by the ash emanating from the chimney as well as flouting of norms of the Pollution Control Board by the Nawanshahr Power Private Limited set up here at Banga Road. Addressing media persons at his residence here today, the MLA has categorically stated that the Private Power Generation Company would not be allowed to play havoc with the health o the residents.
It is worthwhile to mention here that the local NGOs have taken up the issue with the authorities of the Private Power Generation Company. The three member delegation have also visited the Power Generation Plant on Sunday. The three member delegation had also found that the Private Co-generation Company has currently been running the plant on trial run for the past few months.The Company has not got any permission to run the Power Generation Plant so far from the Punjab Pollution Control Board. The permission, which was given by the Punjab Pollution Control Board, to set up the Power Generation Plant, has too expired on November 2. Moreover, the delegation has raised strong objection on running the plant even after occurrence of technical fault in Electrostatic Precipitator ( ESP), the device installed to control the pollution.

Taking serious note of it, the MLA, Angad Singh, has organised press conference to express solidarity with the local residents and the NGOs. " It is my prime duty to safeguard the interests of the local residents. The huge amount of ash from the chimney and the loud sound during operation of the Power Generation Plant has been causing air and sound pollution. It has been proving health and sanitation hazards", said the MLA while adding that the Private Company would not be allowed at any cost to run the power plant sans requisite permission from the Pollution Control Board as well as installation of proper device to check the emanation of ash from the chimney.
"The issue would be taken up with the authorities of Pollution Control Board and he would not even hesitate to join the stir by the local residents and NGOs if the problem of emanating ash from the Power Generation Plant continue to play havoc with the health of the residents of Nawanshahr and villages adjoining the Plant", further said Angad Singh. The leaders including MC Chief, Lalit Mohan Pathak( Ballu), MC, Kamaljit, Rana Kuldip Singh, Chaman Singh Bhanmazara, Dr. Sartaj Singh Mangewalia, Joginder Singh Chhokker, among others, were present on the occasion.
