Jalandhar, November 13: A high level team from the World Bank today visited four villages in the district to review the ongoing projects for water supply under the World Bank funded project being implemented by the state government.
A team led by World Bank Officer Ms. Harjot Kaur visisted the village Gehlar, Daultapur, Kotli Jameet Singh and Jethpur in the district and reviewed the working of the Water Supply schemes in these villages. She said that the basic purpose of visiting the villages was to analyze and ensure that the schemes were being implemented in a proper manner. Ms. Harjot Kaur also called upon the women to come forward and register their maximum participation in these projects, which were aimed at ensuring access to more reliable and better quality water supply and sanitation facilities to the rural households.
She said that the project has also strengthened water quality monitoring methods and ensured proper distribution of potable drinking water by the gram panchayat water supply and sanitation committee. Ms. Harjot Kaur said that such projects must be implemented in the right earnest with a missionary zeal, so that maximum number of people could be benefitted from it. Expressing satisfaction over the ongoing projects, she congratulated the officers of water supply and sanitation department for leaving no stone unturned for successfully implementing this project to script a new success story in the state and country.
The team also had detailed deliberations with the Panchayats of the villages during which they called upon the Panchayats to play a proactive role for further strengthening the project and making it a huge success.
Meanwhile, at village Kotli Jameet Singh a village resident Dr. Rohit while narrating the woes of his village before launching of the scheme said that this scheme has proved to be a boon for his village. He said that prior to this scheme villagers used to fetch water from hand pumps due to which they were prone to several waterborne diseases adding that they had to frequently visit Doctors for one problem or other. However, Dr. Rohit said that now the situation has changed entirely as people were living a healthy and happy life ever since this scheme has been launched.
The team was accompanied by Superintendent Engineer Mr. Harinder Singh, Executive Engineer Mr. KS Saini, Sub Divisional Officer Mr. Gaggandeep Singh, Sub Divisional Engineer Mr. Alok Arora, Mrs. Harsh Goyal, Junior Engineers Mr. Chetan and Mr. Zorawar Singh besides other officers of the department.
