Jalandhar, November 22, 2017: In a bid to curb the menace of the child labour in the district, the task Force of the Jalandhar administration under the leadership of the Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma undertook a special drive during the last week in which eight adolescent labourers were found working.
Divulging the details, Assistant Labour Commissioner Mr. Sukhjinder Singh said that two teams of task force, constituted under the chairmanship of Sub Divisional Magistrate Mr. Rajiv Verma, checked around 868 institutions during the drive. He said that during this drive commercial institutions, Shellers, brick kiln, houses and other place were inspected for curbing this menace. Mr. Sukhjinder Singh said that this special drive was held from November 14-21 and strict action as per the stipulated norms has been taken against the institutions, which have hired these adolescent employees.
The Assistant Labour Commissioner further said that strenuous efforts were being made by the department for nabbing the people involved in this crime against humanity on one hand and making the people aware about this curse on the other. He said that the district administration under Deputy Commissioner Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma was committed to wipe out this curse from the district and no stone would be left unturned in this noble cause. Mr. Sukhjinder Singh further said that the district administration has embarked a massive social awareness campaign under National Child Labour project to make the people aware against the social menace of Child labour.
The Assistant Labour Commissioner also said that the results of the efforts of the department were also encouraging as the scourge of Child labour was on decline in the district. He said that in future also zealous efforts would be continued to ensure that the exploitation of children was checked at all cost.
