Jalandhar, December 10, 2017: Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma said that the district administration would make concerted efforts to give a major face lift to Guru Nanak Dev library in the heart of the city.
The Deputy Commissioner, who visited this library, said that this library was a true repository of knowledge and literature. He said that it was a matter of great pride and satisfaction for all of us that this state of the art library houses more than one lakh books on varied subjects, which attracts the book lovers. Mr. Sharma said that the collection of library includes some of the rare and precious books, which was be a big asset for the book lovers.
The Deputy Commissioner categorically said that this place was a paradise for book lovers and every effort would be made to develop it in the best possible way. He said that special focus would also be laid on preservation of the books so that more and more number of book lovers could take benefit from it. Likewise, Mr Sharma said that focus would also be laid on sprucing up the existing infrastructure in the library.
The Deputy Commissioner said that a team of district administration would soon visit the library to ascertain the things needed at ground level for smooth functioning of it. Mr. Sharma said that the main motive was to further develop this library as a hub of learning and reading. He also called upon residents of city to aptly utilize the treasure of books for enhancing their knowledge adding that as books were best of human being so avail the facility of this library by developing their reading habits.
Earlier, District Librarian Mrs. Surinder Kaur and Section Incharge Mrs Priyanka welcomed the Deputy Commissioner to library and apprised them about the working of library.
