Jalandhar, December 13, 2017: Reiterating the firm commitment of the district administration to conduct the local bodies poll in free, fair and transparent manner, the Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma and Commissioner of Police Mr Praveen Kumar Sinha today reviewed the security of strong rooms where the electronic voting machines (EVMs) have been stored.
The Deputy Commissioner and Commissioner of Police, accompanied by other key officers of the administration, inspected the security arrangements at the strong rooms. They also gave the necessary directions to the officer regarding the arrangements to be made prior and during the polling day. They said that 5500 officer including 3000 from civil and 2500 from Police administration have been deployed during the poll.
They inspected the security of strong rooms at Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Government Senior Secondary school, Government Training college and Junior Model School on Ladowali road, Raizada Hansraj Stadium and KMV College. During the inspection spanning more than three hours the officers minutely looked into all the arrangements involving the election process. They also had detailed interaction with the Registration Officers incharge of these strong rooms regarding the arrangements.
Meanwhile, both the officers said that the district administration has put in place an elaborate system of security measures and procedural checks-and-balances aimed at ensuring foolproof security of these strong rooms and EVMs. They said that these safeguards were implemented by district administration transparently with the active and documented involvement of political parties, candidates and their representatives at every stage to build their confidence on efficacy and reliability in the electoral process. Both the officers said that the district administration would ensure that it was able to set a new bench mark by providing a totally free, fair, peaceful, credible, transparent, inclusive and participative election, so that these elections were celebrated as the festival of democracy. Both the officer said that anyone trying to disturb the peaceful conduct of these elections would be dealt sternly as per the law.
