Manjinder Singh Sirsa
Chandigarh, May 28, 2016: General Secretary of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) Manjinder Singh Sirsa has reminded Delhi's chief minister Sh. Arvind Kejriwal about his moral duty and 'Raj Dharma' of helping the victims of 1984 anti-Sikh massacre. In his letter, Sh. Sirsa expressed concern that despite passage of a long period of 32 years and establishment of several enquiry commissions and presently an enquiry by Special Investigation Team (SIT), the culprits of 1984 anti-Sikh massacre could not be punished in the courts of law. Therefore, to give a healing effect to the victim families, Delhi government, which is restless for getting political mileage in Punjab by projecting itself as well-wisher of the victims; should have passed a resolution in the state assembly declaring 1st November as a 'black day'. But despite earlier correspondence by Sirsa on the same subject, Delhi government is paying no heed to this issue.
He stated that the condition of the flats of the 1984 victims in Tilak Vihar colony has turned very bad but the victims are unable to get repaired these flats owing to their poor financial condition. If these flats are not repaired immediately, any untoward incident can happen in the colony leading to large scale loss of lives and property and the responsibility for the same would be of Delhi government. Sirsa demanded that in addition to the repairing of the flats, new sewerage pipelines should be installed in the area and proper arrangement should be ensured for the supply of drinking water to the victims. He stated that earlier the electrcity supply to these flats was free of cost but now the electricity companies have installed new meters in these flats and are sending bills worth thousands of rupees every month to the victims. Besides, poor families are being harrassed by non-supply of electricity for several hours in order to get recovery of such hefty bills.
S. Sirsa informed that he had intimated these issues earlier also to Sh. Arvind Kejriwal through his letter no. 3759/2-6 dated 19th March 2016. But not to speak of any action on that letter, Mr. Kejriwal not even bothered to send any reply to the letter, which shows that he doesn't care about the 1984 victims. Sirsa stated that despite its limited resources, DSGMC is helping the victims by providing them ration, financial help, help in the studies of the children of these families etc. But instead of using these victims as a tool to get political mileage, Delhi government should also help the victims by implementing these suggestions. Sirsa declared that if Delhi government fails to fulfil its 'Raj Dharma' of helping the massacre victims by taking prompt action in this regards; DSGMC would be compelled to take steps in this direction through its own resources and with the help of the Sikhs of Delhi.
