S.A.S. Nagar, March 18, 2018: Anurag Verma, Financial Commissioner, Rural Development and Panchayat Department, said that the Murabba Burjis in villages are common properties as such Panchayat funds could be utilised for their reinstallation.
A letter regarding this has been sent to Divisional Deputy Directors and District Development & Panchayat Officers.
He said that due to misplacement and damage of these burjis, various demarcation cases are pending since very long. He said that the expenditure thus occurs for re- construction of these Burjis could be booked to Panchayat funds, because the management of common lands of villages is with the Rural Development and Panchayat Department.
Verma said that as per Panchayati Raj Act 1994 section 30, Community works, construction, maintenance are included in the scope of work for Gram Panchayat.
These Burjis are included in common properties. As such, all deputy directors and district development & panchayat officers has been asked to utilise the funds available with Panchayat concerned for re-construction of these Burjis on the demand of Revenue and Rehabilitation Department, Punjab.
