Sangrur, March 19, 2018: Deputy Commissioner Sangrur Ghanshyam Thori today exhorted the students and youth to enroll themselves as Drug Abuse Prevention Officers (DAPOs) for wiping out the curse of drugs from the state.
Chairing a meeting to review the enrollment of this scheme here today, the Deputy Commissioner said that till now around 4000 people have enrolled themselves as DAPOs in the district. He said that this number needs to be enhanced by involving more and more number of people in this mass movement. Mr. Thori said that people should voluntarily come forward for this noble cause to be active partners for the social welfare.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the students could enroll themselves as DAPO by downloading the app from Google play store or through their concerned Police Saanjh Kendras. He said that it was all the more important for the youth and students to play an important role in this movement because the state government has initiated this campaign for protecting them from falling prey to the menace of drugs. Mr. Thori said that it was the high time that the youth must enrolled themselves as DAPO and play an important role in wiping out this curse from the society.
The DC said that DAPOs would play an important role in raising awareness against drug abuse, identification of users, high risk people and vulnerable sections besides motivating the drug users and their families to avail treatment facilities, facilitating their treatment and counseling at drug de-addiction centres besides provide feedback to the state government on the issue. He asked the Sub Divisional Magistrates to expedite the process of filling the forms for the enrollment of DAPOs in the district.
On the occasion Additional Deputy Commissioners Upkar Singh and Rajinder Singh Batra, Assistant Commissioner Deepjot Kaur, Superintendent of Police Harmeet Singh Hundal and others were also present.
