Ferozepur March 19, 2018: To eliminate drugs from society from its root and to rehabilitate the drug addicts through counseling and treatment, the government is enrolling the people aged above 18 years as Drug Abuse Prevention Officers (DAPO) and Martyrdom Day of March 23, will be celebrated as Youth Empowerment Day, said Pritam Singh, SSP Ferozepur while speaking to the media persons.
He said, so far around 4000 volunteers have been registered against the target of 10,000 for Ferozepur and this process will continue. The volunteers will work with dedication and devotion to make the society drug free.
SSP said the DAPO will be launched by the Chief Minister on March 23 with administering of oath to the volunteers to find drug abuse, rehabilitate addicts and motivate vulnerable youngsters to stay away from drugs.
He also said the law and order situation in the district will be completely controlled and no anti-social elements will be allowed to disturb the law and order situation. The police had already achieved great success in eliminating the supply of drugs. All the Police Heads have been instructed to speed up petrol during day and night of their respective areas so that no untoward incident occurs, he added.
