Nawanshahr, May 16, 2018: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Saheed Bhagat Singh Nagar on Wednesday made aware the DSPs and SHOs of the district of the legal procedures to be followed in cases related to POCSO Act-2012 besides the dissemination of information regarding Victims Compensation Act 2017.
CJM Parinder Singh, the secretary DLSA, while interacting with the police officers at SSP office, asked them to make it sure to not to call the victim child at police station for recording his/her statement. Similarly while a police offices, not below the rank of Sub Inspector, has been sent to record the statement of the victim, would not be in uniform. He also told them imporatnt legal aspects related to POCSO Act.
Making aware of the Victim Compensation Act 2017, he stressed on the need of disemination of information in the form of bbanners and pamphlets at Police Station and Saanjh Kendra level so that the victims could apply for the same in time. The act has a provision of maximum compensation upto Rs. 5 lakh as per the grievous nature of the crime. Anybody who wants to file a claim for the compensation, can avail the chance within three years of happening of the crime. The application can be forwarded to the District Legal Services Authority or State legal services Authority.
The act also allows compensation in case of unidentified accused besides the cases where the courts deem it fit case for getting compensation.
The victims may be of acid attacks, rape, physical exploitation, human trafficking and dependents of deceased/permanent or temporary disabled due to crime.
Superintendent of Police (H) Harish Dayama asked the police officers to abide all the legal aspects carefully during the registraion of a case under POCSO Act. Similarly all the SHOs and Saanjh Kendra InCharges were directed to display the banners of the Victim Compnesation Act 2017 so that maximum people could be benefitted.
Others who were attneded the seminar included, DSPs Dalbir Singh, Harwinder Singh Dalli, Gurpreet Singh, Mukhtiyar Rai and ASP Sartaj Singh besides all the SHOs.
